Real Madrid won the CL last season, Will the likes of Ronaldo,Bale and James be able to do it again or will Bayern or Barcelona be able to stop them?

Fenerbahce v Arsenal - 21st August

Postby Hams » Mon Aug 19, 2013 9:46 pm

Like with the Arsenal side Fenerbahce also lost their opening game of the season!

There will be some familiar names in the Turkish side like Raul Meireles, Dirk Kuyt and Joseph Yobo.

Any comments or predictions for this 1st leg?

A difficult one to forecast, but I think Arsenal have enough quality and experience to overcome the "crisis" generated by the opening day defeat to Villa. Turkish sides usually have their limitations exposed when they go up against the better sides in Europe. I'll go for a narrow 1-2 win to the Gooners.

HT

Fenerbahce 0-0 Arsenal

Arsenal were in control in the first half but have lacked a cutting edge upfront which they need to improve in 2nd period.

Easy win for Arsenal, Fenerbahce were poor. A 3 goal lead should settle the tie.

FT

Fenerbahce 0-3 Arsenal
0-1 Gibbs 51’
0-2 Ramsey 64'
0-3 Giroud 77’ (pen.)

It was a good display by Arsenal with Theo Walcott the star of the show setting up Gibbs and winning the penalty.

Fenerbahce were very poor and the home fans had all but deserted the stadium by the end of the game as they knew it was all over.

That is more like it. Didn't see the game as I'm in the office, but always nice to see Gibbs get a break (not on his leg) and get himself a goal!

It hasn't been a good week for Koscielny who had to go off on 33 minutes after getting a boot in the face from Sow.
How the Turks in the crowd could complain about their player getting a yellow card for that clear foul was a complete joke!

Great result. If we're honest Fenerbache made it easy for us but we were clinical and after a week of hearing how we were going to struggle tonight from the likes of Merson and some on here, it's good that we did the job emphatically.

Like seeing Giroud on the score-sheet again even if was a penalty, good to see his confidence is growing. 20+ goals season for him I predict, although it depends on who else we sign upfront.

Good result!
good to see Rosicky play the full 90 minutes and effective all game that was very encouraging from a personal stand point.
The Turkish team were just technically out of their depth in this game errant p[asses left and right ,just made it impossible for them.

absolutely delighted that Arsenal have effectively knocked this vile football club out of the competition so convincingly in the first leg at their own ground.

hopefully Arsenal will get at least another seven at the Emirates.

I also thought Ramsey played very well last night and hope
that Arsenal fans will get off his back a little and try and support him a bit more.

I don't think we will need a match topic for next weeks 2nd leg!
