Atletico Madrid v Barcelona

Postby Hams » Fri Jan 10, 2014 2:57 pm

Atletico Madrid have won all their matches played at the Calderon stadium so far this season.

A win on Saturday night againt Barcelona would take Los Indios 3 points clear at the top of the table.

Lionel Messi is now back from his injury and came of the bench to score twice against Getafe in the Copa last Wednesday.

The Argentine has scored more times against Atleti than any other club in the first division with 17 in just 14 games.

Diego Simeone's side have a very poor recent record againt Barca and have lost their last 6 La Liga fixtures to them.

Any comments or predictions for this top of the table clash?

Thank god that both Neymar and Messi are only on the bench tonight, maybe Atleti can end this horrible run against Barca?

It looks like Fabregas is playing in the false No9 position with Pedro and Alexis either side of him.

FT

Atletico Madrid 0-0 Barcelona

I think a draw was a fair result at the end but Real Madrid could be the winners if they win away at Espanyol on Sunday.

Atletico have lost their 100 percent home record in the league but at least they have ended their terrible run against Barcelona

Lionel Messi came on at half time and had a couple of chances while Neymar appeared as a 2nd half sub.

Arda Turan who i thought was Atleti's best player on the night had the greatest opportunity but could only volley at Valdes.

The Catalans had most of the possession as usual but i thought Atleti were better team in second period and our fans were magnificent.

Any comments on tonights match?

A very tight and scrappy game at times but there was some quality from both teams. I thought turan was the best player on the pitch. Iniesta was until he was forced off. Fair result though

That's the best ive seen us defensively this season.
Atleti were incredible, real credit to Simeone, no delaying tactics or niggling fouls that we usually come up against to disrupt us, just shear hard work all over the pitch.
Not much in way of goal mouth action but a lot to appreciate.
Good to see Messi clawing his way back bit by bit, especially after the knock he took early 2nd half.
Fair result in the end but cant help but think its a better result for Atleti given last game of the season and head to head.
