Should FA ban Anelka over quenelle gesture?

As we all know Nicolas Anelka made a racist and semitic gesture when he scored at West Ham couple weeks ago.

The FA still haven't made a decision on if he should be banned yet as they are waiting for expert they hired to make report.

West Brom's sponsor Zoopla is now threatening to pull out unless Albion ban player for tonights match against Everton.

Do you have any comments on this situation?

Anelka's pal is a known holocaust denier and anti-semite and so to claim the gesture was anything other than anti-semitic is cowardly. Anelka should at least stand by his gesture and his mate if those are his beliefs.

the Islamic view on the holocaust is an interesting one. former Iranian PM ahmadinejad had the audacity to hold a convention for Holocaust deniers in a country that seemed to have relatively decent relations with Israel prior to becoming an 'Islamic Republic'.

there has been a deathly silence from the Society of Black Lawyers on the matter which is intriguing given their publicity drive for a crusade against racial and religious intolerance - although at the time it was thought this was only the domain of white people so this must be a spanner in the works.

I understand that Kick It Out chairman Lord Ouseley has already criticised
the FA over the speed of its investigation but there has not been a word said from the Society of Black Lawyers.

Five Live are reporting Zoopla have withdrawn their sponsorship although their logo is plastered all over the ground and is still on the shirts of the players.

Anelka is an idiot, what has politics, religion or racism got to do with goal celebrations? I'd give him a ban of a couple of games to set a precedence for any other prat who thinks doing something similar would be a good idea.

So the FA have finally charged Anelka

A statement read: "It is alleged that, in the 40th minute of the fixture, Anelka made a gesture which was abusive and/or indecent and/or insulting and/or improper, contrary to FA Rule E3[1].

"It is further alleged that this is an aggravated breach, as defined in FA Rule E3[2], in that it included a reference to ethnic origin and/or race and/or religion or belief.

"Anelka has until 6pm on 23 January 2014 to respond to the charge."

If he is found guilty he could be banned for a minimum of 5 matches.

Personally i think he should be banned until the end of the season and then hopefully he will pack his bags and go back to France.

Everton had to remove a video on their website showing Lukaku supporting Anelka by saying his quenelle gesture is not a big deal
Clearly we have another player here who thinks its OK to make Anti semitic gestures.
How many more are there?

The latest news is that Anelka has denied the FA charge so there will now be a hearing but he can continue playing for time being.

How many games did Suarez get banned for after his (alleged) racist comments to Evra?. He should get the same treatment. If you have a friend who is a known racist then it best not to make racist gestures and claim innoceonce.

It looks like Anelka could be leaving for Lazio to escape having to serve a ban
He is reported to have posted "on my way" on a social networking site.

Well those ultras over in Rome are some of the most racist fans in Europe so he will be in good company.
He will also be able to give full Nazi salutes after scoring and get away with it as the Italian FA dont do anything to stop it.
They are both welcome to each other :P

I don't think the ultras you refer to will be big fans of Anelka either Hams!

No Stan, I think they are going to have a special relationship and Anelka will love it over there.
He only needs to ask Mario Balotelli!

Just in

Anelka has been found guilty and banned for 5 games, fined 80K and will be sent on an educational course.

He has 1 week to appeal.

I think he should accept his punishment and not make any more racist gestures in the future.

Have they made the right decision on this?

pleasantly surprised by the FA's backbone on this.

the West Brom ban is tokenistic drivel though, without a doubt.

What i dont understand is how can Anelka be found guilty of making a racist gesture but that he is not anti semitic?

Hopefully we wont see Le Sulk playing football on these shores any longer.

a non-racist person is capable of making a racist remark. that was essentially the finding of the Suarez incident as well.

i guess the finding has found that he did the gesture, which is an anti-semitic gesture, in support of his friend. therefore while he may not have anti-semitic feelings the gesture was offensive.

and more importantly he deliberately put that gesture to a global audience.
