Man Utd v Liverpool

Postby Conner99 » Wed Mar 12, 2014 6:51 pm

Man Utd kept their european hopes alive with a 3-0 win at West Brom , it leaves them 5 pts behind Tottenham who are in 5th place, they do have a game in hand though ...a win against Liverpool would be most welcome for manager David Moyes as he tries to salvage something from a difficult first season at Old Trafford .

Liverpool will get back to Premier League action after a break during the FA Cup action last weekend , the game against Man Utd will be another vital game for manager Brendan Rodgers as he tries to keep the Reds title challenge in full swing , currently second in the table , Liverpool have a game in hand over leaders Chelsea so a win will keep the pressure on the Blues.

I will be at 'Castle Greyskull' to watch this one ,so I'm hoping our football is
more intelligent than it was against Swansea and the Saints ,because we
simply cant afford to proffer United with the ball for anything bordering on
the percentages we presented our last opponents.

I hope Lucas is involved and I hope we can balance our vibrant attacking
play with a more measured and solid display both in defence and through
the middle..... I fully expect United to be up for this ,as a win for either
team in these encounters usually in terms of confidence simply cannot be
underestimated ....A win here for the boys will see us put a significant
shaft of daylight between ourselves and the chasing pack.

I'm hoping we can catch United cold with our lightening counter attacks
its also this reason I believe it will be an extremely tight game ,possibly
decided by a penalty,as I think Suarez and Sturridge will leave Evra and
co with twisted blood.

Anyway stomachs in knots now ,so as soon as I take my seat at OT I
will be a veritable bag of nerves ,Defeat could see United seriously
derail the impressive impetus we have been slowly showing in challenging
for a Champions League berth ,so defeat is actually unthinkable.

My heart says a win ,but my head is retorting with a draw.

1-1

I didn't know that you were a fan of He Man redpelt!

I guess Old Trafford doesn't appear to be much of a fortress these days.

I think this is the first time for years that I make Liverpool favourites to win away at Man Utd.

2-3 is my prediction.

This is the big one for both sets of fans. A win for Liverpool would see our 1st double over United for a long time & give us some daylight in the race for a top 4 place. If United can get a result then this really puts the pressure on, especially when you see who they have to play on their run in.

I would love to see us give them a pasting like we did to Spurs but somehow I can't see it, especially if its true that Howard Webb will referee the game?

big match indeed!

Not only because of the stature of each of the teams pride ,but for that guaranteed Champions league spot!
It's going to be a war, I can't see any other way around it!
I give Liverpool the edge though ,but not without Man u giving it their all!

I can understand why Liverpool fans go into this game with trepidation, given the history of these top division hard hitters with many closely fought bitter encounters, but sometimes you have to look at current form, current players, current manager and conclude the obvious.

Liverpool are on the crest of a wave, Rodgers seems to be growing in stature week by week, the Merseyside side have a settled team and a firing strike force.

Man Utd in contrast are a team 'in transition' with a manager who seems to be in transition himself. A string of poor results in all competitions has left them looking down the barrel of a barren season. Not impossible, but implausible for Moyes to turn a dreadful season around now.

I'll go for a Liverpool win 1-3.

I got a bad feeling about this one. With Liverpools form I think it will be another home defeat for us.

especially if its true that Howard Webb will referee the game?

I thought that Webb had joined Chelsea on a free transfer now that Fergie is no longer in the Old Trafford hot seat?

Liverpool need to win if they are to have a serious chance at the title ....it would be a real boost heading into the last few months of the season ..I think it will be close as Man Utd will not want to lose this one , Suarez will be the key I think ..4-1 to Liverpool ...Suarez gets the lot ...own goal too .

To be honest Connor i think Liverpool would be more than happy with a draw at Man U .
If they come out with the hearts rather than their heads they may really go for it and either trounce Man U or lose the game by leaving themselves exposed. Man u will be up for it i am sure, just to shut up the Scousers for a couple of days!

I disagree. Liverpool are flying at the moment and I think they would kick themselves if they didn't win against a team on the slide, albeit Man United.

I'm going with 2-1 Liverpool.

The last draw in this fixture was back in March 2000, so I reckon we are due one

Should have been a penalty against Suarez there for sure! Fellaini 's sloppy attempt should have been punished without question.

I wonder if the match up between Sterling and felliani will slap Moyes out of his luddite mentality ,because it seems like Rodgers is taking full advantage of the obvious to me. Sterling has made Felliani look like a Klutz out there so far!

MAn u can't get a look at the goal at the moment ,but it will be like them to score a gaol for nowhere.

Just when you think Sturridge has matured and become a team player he does a move like that. Sterling wide open Sturridge on an angle with 2 players in front of him tries the shot and fails.Twat!

HT

Man Utd 0-1 Liverpool

Gerrard PEN 34'

That Rafael is a lucky boy, he should have been sent off for that hand ball.

A deserved lead for Liverpool at half time.

Man Utd have been rubbish.
