You're missing the point, Flipper. If Mascherano can run 20 yards to argue then why couldn't Steven Gerrard run to calm the situation down? Whenever you have these sort of flare ups almost always you'd expect your captain to be in there, either restraining his own players, or arguing with the ref personally. You see it all the time from the likes of John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand, and previously from Keane and Vieira. Leaders that are respected.

In any case, Gerrard should have told Mascherano to calm down way before the incident occured, as it was clear as daylight that the Argentine was very close to a red card.

yeah.. i saw in a horror when he approached bennett after the booking for torres.. dunno what's happening to him.. but the incident itself also took a few minutes to dismiss.. consider a tough one.. he refused to walk straight out of pitch and even rafa himself needed to calm him down in the end..

well.. i was unhappy to see ferdinand being booked for nothing big deal.. but then glad he didn't do anything like mascherano.. guess mascherano shocked everyone indeed..

I only saw the first half of this one, but from what i could see United were in complete control of the game. And could have been cut and dry had Rooney have found his composure and shooting boots early on.
Just to add my opinion on the Mascherano incident, I think a red card was justified to be perfectly honest. After his first yellow card he could be seen telling Bennet to f off more than once, which is enough to get sent off there and then. He then continually seemed to question the referee's decision despite being on this yellow card and it was just sheer stupidity to sprint across the pitch to question the referee once more despite what was actually said.

I don't think he's close to the best in the world, and i'm not sure if i would have him in my top 10. He would be close though.

Not true. I've seen Cech put in much worse performances since the head injury, and many still regard him as the best in the world.

Reina certainly isn't the best in the world, but he is a good goal keeper.



Lol, not with his finishing. He did well to create chances for others and himself, but his finishing was woeful. His finishing has always been poor for a striker of his reputation though, so it's not surprising he didn't add to the humiliation, even with the one on ones he had.

Gerrard is not a leader and should not be the Captain of Liverpool Football Club and I have held that opinion from day one. He is insecure and needs to be constantly loved, he turns against every manager, he acts like he is bigger than the club and he almost left for Chelsea because he didn't feel wanted (not that the money and chance of the title didn't factor in).

Capello is not stupid and Gerrard will not be his captain.

Who would you have as captain Wtebar? There is no one better qualified in my opinion. Yes, Gerrard showed [beep!] all yesterday. He has gone missing in big games far to often recently. It looked as if he new from the off that we would not win, and conceeded defeat very early on. However, to say there is a better candidate in the squad is simply untrue. If you were to mention our vise-captain Carragher, who always shows heart etc, then i would say nope. I cant see him being a regular for much longer. i cant wait for agger to return to get some class on the ball at the back.
