manager leaves Forest Green
Forest Green Rovers have parted company with manager Alan Lewer following their relegation from the Conference. Lewer leaves by mutual consent after replacing Tim Harris last September. Rovers lost their opening seven games of the season but despite Lewer rebuilding the squad he could not avoid a bottom-three finish. Vice-chairman Colin Gardner told BBC Sport: "We sat down and agreed that things did not happen the way we wanted, and he was also disappointed." Rovers will now wait to see which names come forward as a possible successor, while a decision could also depend on what division they are playing in next season. The Gloucestershire club should be heading for Conference South, but could get a reprieve if Northwich Victoria or Gravesend fail to finish ground improvements in time. Regardless of whether they do go down or not, Forest Green will switch to full-time status next season as work continues on their new ground. "That was agreed at the same meeting. We want to make sure the club is going forward," added Gardner. On the playing front, former Cardiff and Southend defender Damon Searle, 33, has agreed a new contract for next season. |
