i was reading today about David Beckham and his upcoming 100th cap for England as seems likely if Capello does play him tomorrow against France . He insists he does not want to finish on 100 caps but intends to carry on playing and get even more caps .. so how much longer can he play for ...the following are the record holders for England caps ..who else can reach 100 and who in the past was unlucky not to win more caps or was shamefully overlooked by England managers

Peter Shilton 125 caps 0 goals
Bobby Moore 108 caps 2 goals
Bobby Charlton 106 caps 49 goals
Billy Wright 105 caps 3 goals
David Beckham 99 caps 17 goals
Bryan Robson 90 goals 26 caps
Michael Owen 88 caps 40 goals
Kenny Sansom 86 caps 1 goal
Gary Neville 85 caps 0 goals
Ray Wilkins 84 caps 3 goals
Gary Lineker 80 caps 48 goals

looking at Michael Owen ...will he get the chance to overtake the record set by Bobby Charlton ...still quite young at 28 he should be able to but it all depends on Capello and the current form of Owen ..

i read a little report in the paper yesterday about all the hype regarding Beckhams 100th cap and teh fact that it seems a lot of england players will be nearing that magic 100 cap milestone in the near future . It was noted that the reason why so many England players are near that figure is the lack of competition for places in the team .

Teams like Argentina , Brazil , Italy , Germany have only 3 or 4 players who have reached that 100 figure ....that is beacause they have more competition for places and more players coming through ..

good point or just a load of nonsense .

It is a good point but i think there hasnt been that much competition from England players to gain spots. There is plenty now but about 4 years ago there weren't many pushing for England selection.

I think Beckham will end up getting the most caps for an on field player. And Owen, like you said, if in good form for the next couple of years, will beat Becks.
