This weekend I was able to watch the NCAA Championship Women's semi's and Final from Texas....The semi's pitted Portland (Oregon) against Florida, and UCLA against Penn St. Portland beat Florida by way of penalties, and UCLA beat Penn to set up the finals between UCLA and Portland. Portland won quite easily 4-0 to become the National Champs (also won in 2002).
But the point I want to make is the international players that were playing on all 4 teams....Portland had Christine Sinclair (Canadian National) as well as Lindsey Huie (US National). UCLA had Iris Mora (Mexican National) and Kara Lang (Canadian National). Florida who they said made a point of getting players from other countries had Sel Kuralay (Australian National), Viola Odebrecht (German National), Minna Pyykko (Finnish National) and Kirsten van de Ven (Dutch International). Finally, Penn State had Carmelina Moscato and Erin McLeod (both Candian Nationals).
It was high quality football and enjoyable to watch and I'm sure we will hear more from these girls as well as the younger ones that are currently in there countries U-21 and U-19 player pools......
