Sami Hyypia will fight for his place |
|
Hyypia: "All the talk about new signings doesn't affect me at all I just try to do my best. Last season I was sitting on the bench for a while, but I kept working hard in training and I got my chance and played well.
"The first day we came back for training in the summer, the manager took me into his office and said he wanted to sign a new centre-back. I said, 'That's fine with me'. "Competition is always good. I like the challenge. It is not because I feel threatened that someone may come in and take my place that I am maybe playing well. Anybody can come in and try and take it. I am up for the fight. "I just try to concentrate on my own game. Jamie is playing very well and he deserves all the praise he is getting. It is very easy to play alongside him because he is such a good player. I am a person who doesn't want to be in the limelight. It is fine with me if he gets the praise because he deserves it for the way he has played for a long time now." "Nobody expected us to go far last season in the competition and I think it is the same again. But we have shown in the group stage that we can do well again and who knows what we can achieve. We will never give up." Liverpool will need some new signings in Jan including right winger and a central defender. There is a discussion about Liverpool's Potential January moves in The Barclays Premiership Forum. |

Nice to see this! He's a great professional. I just hope Liverpool can win the league sooner so that he can be one of those players who won everything there is to be won at club level.
Hyypia is a true great. One of the most underrated players I've known. |
