What happened to the "friendly" Merseyside derby? |
|
I always thought that Liverpool and Everton fans got on well together
and despite being from the same city and having a fierce rivarly had a kind of mutual respect for each other as most local families are half red and half blue... On Sunday we had Everton fans singing sick songs about Gerrard's family and making rude and obscene hand gestures to him when he took corners infront of the away fans Phil Neville has alleged that he was spat at and subjected to vile language whilst also being punched in the back whilst taking a throw in by a Liverpool fan and Joleen Lescott alleges that nasty coments were made about his scar he suffered during a car crash way back... So what happend to the friendly Merseyside derby and why has it become so nasty in recent years? |

When one team is good and the other is bad, it's friendly. When both teams are bad, it's friendly. When both teams are good and are fighting for the final CL position, it's friendliness dies with it.

Sorry mate but you haven't got a clue what you are going on about in this one. I won't go into it as I know how it will end. |

Do you post here just to argue with people. I cant remember a post which wasnt a come back or a start of or in an argument. Are people not allowed to post there opinions. When they do all you do is tell them they are wrong even when there not.
Liverpool and Everton may well of gotten on well together, but like 5murfy said when both teams are competing for the final Champions League spot, both needing not to loose to have a realistic chance of getting that 4th spot its never going to be friendly. |

Totally disagree mate, the 80's were the best years for rivalry, both teams were the best in England and maybe even in europe at that time, yet both sets of fans always sat side by side and were always very friendly |

It's just the way society has changed these days, like i said both teams were the best around back in the glory days but both sets of fans had so much respect for each other,it's sad to see it nowadays |

Not Dundee derbys. We get no hassle. We are closest going. An old derby we are also |

Yes
I can.
Their opinions, yes they are.
You are wrong.
I agree.
I agree.
I agree.
I agree.
That's Joleon Lescott. He is a grown man he should get over it. If he isn't being teased for that, it would be something else. Look what Rooney gets called. |

Thats just helpful Monty.
Also dont mock my English skills, i passed my GCSE in it and thats good enough for me. C grade rocks. |

wtebar is surely Monty in disguise.

I agree but if everyone just agreed without some disagreement, it wouldn't be a forum. I just did that as an example for you to understand that.
I disagree. |

Im not saying he has to agree with what Smurfy said, but no need to tell him hes wrong. Its an opinion which many people would agree with. Id of not said anything id wtebar would of said something like:
I disagree and then said why and given his view on the question asked. There was no need in saying you dont have a clue, when im sure there would of been alot of people who agreed with what he said. |

It's just his opinion, like anyone elses. People have said worse to me than what he has said.
Has it really been that friendly though in the past? Maybe you are looking though rose tinted glasses. Our rivalry with Sunderland is very strong even when in different leagues. I didn't expect Liverpool and Everton to be holding hands watching the game. |

If something is posted as an opinion then so be it, it can't be wrong. If something is put forward as fact and is miles wide and about my team I will challenge it. It has absolutely nothing to do with 4th spot whatsoever, but then what would I know I only support the team, live in the city and go to the games. |

Fair enough. It was hard to assertain given the original context of the post. I wasn't trying to just start an arguement contrary to Yobbo's belief. |

Huuussssh. Smurfy said that because the teams were both competing for 4th spot there was no chance it could be a friendly match. And you told him he had no clue. So what im saying is no need to say it like you did. Just tell him your views and say you dont agree. Just because you live in Liverpool doesnt mean you know everything about this topic. |

Listen you muppet you are the one starting now and I'm going to put you back in your box so read on: THE TOPIC WAS THE MERSEYSIDE DERBY. Therefore it is not unreasonable to assuem that the post was in relation to that subject. We are both chasing 4th (sadly) so it was not out of order for me to assume that is what he was on. He has since alluded to the fact that he was not clear and I have let it go. YOU ARE THE ONE CARRYING IT ON. |

I know the reason behind it but this isnt the place to bring it up.
The friendly derby is dead but Evertonians and Liverpudlians can still get on outside the football. |
