Real Madrid's stand-in captain Guti admits the team is still suffering from the sale of Claude Makelele two years ago to Chelsea.
The Spaniard told AS: "He was very important for us because of how he worked, by his tactical sense and other things.

"He received an offer and Madrid made a decision... What I agree with is that since then, the team has never played with two central midfielders.

"But now we return to that formula, so that we can add Pablo Garcia, Gravesen... to the midfield."

He says he was very important (and I agree). He doesn't say Real misses Makelele. And we doesn't miss him actually. We better miss Redondo! He was the best midfielder, much better than the much debated Makelele.

Back to Guti's quote, I can't imagine a single player (at least in Real Madrid) saying that a partner is an idiot and he was unimportant, don't you think so?

What I meant is that it's obvious that a footballer talks in a good way about a partner, and he never would say "He was an idiot, unimportant and a bad footballer". I haven't ever heard a footballer talking that way about his partner, have you? (Maybe you have, but I don't)

He's not just saying those things for the sake of it, he believes that Makelele was an important player! He has came out and said these things, he didnt have too.

But at least Real Madrid supporters don't miss him.

I don't know how I missed this topic when it was originally posted, but my response would be to Guti, 'Tell us something we don't know'. I think all (almost all) would agree that it's obvious Real misses him, they haven't been the same since he left, and are still (or at least should be) trying to fill his spot.

It's an issue that I've tackled before, so I won't go into it again.....

well the supporters dont have full apreciation to what maka does...they like strikers ...which leads me to the conclusion that real madrid make signings not to imrove the team...but to make supporters happy ...at Chelsea we think maka is hard to replace ...thats why we jump on someone that can do what he does "Essien" and did everything possible to get him...the two of them scoring a grand total of 1 goal for the club....but i honestly doubt Chelsea would be as good as they are without those two

Exactly Oranje, it's been painfully obvious to most how much they've missed him. My first thought was also 'tell us something we don't know'.

Thats exactly what i was trying to explain to Raul, which he knows better than most being a Real Madrid fan himself.

Soccernut, you don't know what Real Madrid supporters want, so don't say we only want strikers because it's not true. We are glad with Sergio Ramos, and would be glad also with Woodgate if he didn't have that bad luck. 90% of his time in Madrid has been injured Confused

Yes, Real tried to replace him, I'm not doubting it. What I mean is that he wasn't kind with Real Madrid supporters and that's the main reason why we don't want him back, despite he is good. Anyway, I'd choose Sergio Ramos now, since he's only 19, and quicker than Makelele. He only needs experience.

I was digging in some old football magazines the other day. And I came up with the UEFA magazine 2002 -2003. I think it was the season when Real won the CL.
And while I was reading it, one note from the reporter caught my attention: "This super stars' club probably wouldnt be lifting this cup, if it wasnt of makelele. "
Now, it makes a lot of sense. And I am wondering, how come this reporter had seen it and Real managers did not?
