The official Liverpool website describes the club captain as:-

A boyhood Liverpool fan, Gerrard is living the dream of playing for his team and is considered by many to be the complete midfield player.

Some would debate the latter part of that sentence, but not many would claim Gerrard to be anything else but a Liverpool fan. Until they see our picture of him in an Everton kit as a youngster that is...

What was Gerrard up to?

Maybe he was spying on Goodison Park for the Reds during the days when Everton were challenging them for trophies. Sadly, it seems like just another story of a die-hard fan whose allegiance may not be all it is hyped up to be.

The sad truth is that loyalty in football is as rare as honesty in that they are only on display when it suits the players and managers. But, ask yourself this, if you were offered the chance to play for your most hated club for a shedload of cash, would you do it? Of course you would, and we do forget at times that football is just a job for these lucky millionaires.

But that doesn't stop us laughing at them when evidence like this comes out.

Maybe this is the only league trophy he will get his hands on Laughing

Who cares? This isn't anything new. Plenty of local Liverpool players have been Everton fans - in fact most of them in recent years. And i'm sure the trend isn't much different around the country.

Thats a cuss on the website for claiming that he was always a Liverpool fan, but it doesn't surprise me that he was a boyhood blue.

I believe Jamie Carragher was also.

I was referring to the fact that everyone knows he was an Everton fan, idiot.

And yes, apparently Carragher always wears a long-sleeved shirt to cover up an Everton tattoo he has. Owen, Fowler and McManaman were all boyhood Everton fans too. As i said, most of our recent local players have been.

OMG Ian Rush too. I never knew.

Lee Clark went to Sunderland after playing for Newcastle but he wore Newcastle top under his top and he took off his Sunderland top one game when he scored and revealed it. Sunderland fans hated him.

Just let me say this slowly so it gets through your deluded head.

YOU ... SUPPORT.... Newcastle.

I wore an Everton Hafnia top as a kid but I always supported Liverpool. My brother bought me the top and I idolised my brother so I wore it. I supported both teams as a kid but my brother left for the forces and I ended up becoming more and more of a red by my Gran's influence.

Ste Gerrard is hardly the only kid to ever wear the kit of a team he didn't support. Oh and by the way the reason he actually did is because his uncle won a competition and the kit and decided to take Steven along much to the anger of his father.

He was a boyhood red as anyone in his family will tell you and he himself will tell you, for whatever it matters like. He is now the captain of Liverpool FOOTBALL CLUB and turned down a much better chance at the title (in the end) to stay at his boyhood club. Where is Rooney thesedays?

Quoted from Gerrard's book

"...Many people thought it was a fake. It isn't. It's a genuine photograph, taken in 1987. That is me, dressed as an Evertonian, and it wasn't at a fancy-dress party or for a bet. Leslie took me to Goodison when I was six and I saw some of Everton's games on the way to their league championship. I won a programme competition to have my picture taken with the league trophy and Charity Shield at Goodison. Uncle Leslie was buzzing. He know it would send Dad through the roof, and it really did. Dad went ballistic at the thought of his son, all in blue, standing proudly in the Goodison trophy room.........But I did. I was so keen. I was seven by the time, mad about football, not that clued-up in those days about the intense rivalry between Everton and Liverpool.............I look back on the incident and wonder what the hell I was doing. Put it down to the naivety of youth. We all make mistakes.
Everton, Liverpool or whoever - at the tim, just the chance to own a new football kit thrilled me...."

end of story. Wink
