Liverpool v Chelsea : Luis Garcia |
|
Luis Garcia says Chelsea hold no fears for his Liverpool team-mates despite the Blues having beaten the Reds three times already this season.
In addition to getting the better of Liverpool in the Carling Cup final in February, Chelsea also completed a league double over the Merseyside outfit this season. However, Garcia is refusing to put much stock in the outcome of recent meetings between the two sides, opting to focus on exacting revenge and breaking the Blues stranglehold. "We are ready for this," said Garcia. "The confidence we have drawn from beating Juventus in the quarter-finals is massive, and we can take on Chelsea with nothing to fear. "They are just men and players like us. I do not think there is a favourite in this game. It will be very even, just like all the other games between us this season but I am confident there will be lots of goals. "One thing we can guarantee is the emotion and spectacle because these games are going to be amazing. "I want to win not only for Liverpool but also for Barcelona who Chelsea beat. I want revenge for that and the Carling Cup Final. I now play in the red of Liverpool but in my heart I will always remain a Barcelonista." Garcia's Spanish compatriot, Xabi Alonso, will also be targeting a measure of revenge after a tackle by Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard on New Year's Day left him with a broken ankle. The midfielder says it is time for the real Liverpool to stand up and be counted after a topsy-turvy season during which the Reds' displays have ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous. Alonso, who relishes the underdog tag, also believes the fact that he and Steven Gerrard have not played together a lot this season due to injuries means the Blues may not know what to expect from the pair. He said: "This season we have lost a lot of key players through injury but now we have almost a complete squad, or as strong as it has been this season, and the manager has many options now. "We know we will be facing Chelsea with a strong team now. This season I haven't played many games with Stevie apart from before Christmas when we won three games and then I got injured on New Year's Day. "This season hasn't been great for either of us in terms of injury but now we are both ready and it gives the manager more options. "The team is getting stronger now but we haven't played together too many times this season. So while we know Chelsea maybe they don't know the real Liverpool yet. "We will have more options against them at Stamford Bridge than we have had at any other time this season and if we use them properly we can make things very difficult for them. "There is a lot more pressure on Chelsea than there is on us. They are expected to win almost every competition they play in. "They've won the Carling Cup, they are going to win the Premier League and they think they have a great chance of winning the Champions League. "They are favourites but that's good for us. So were Juventus. The most important thing is that we have a lot of confidence in ourselves." The Spanish international added: "What happened in the Carling Cup final and in the league against Chelsea this season has given us great motivation for this semi-final. "It is a very important Champions League game and so that makes it the ideal time to beat them for the first time." |
