Chelsea : eye 10-years Moruinho stay

Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has revealed that the Blues want Jose Mourinho to stay as manager at Stamford Bridge for the next 10 years.
Mourinho has led the club to their first top-flight title for 50 years and they have also won the Carling Cup.

"We talked about Jose being here for 10 years when he first came. We told him we want him to stay that long," Kenyon told BBC Radio Five Live's Sportsweek.

"He is undoubtedly the best manager in the Premiership, he is exceptional."

Kenyon added: "We have been impressed with him from the first time we met him.

"He came with unbelievable credentials and he is the best manager we can have in terms of the success we want to achieve.

"From the first time the squad came together it was evident he was going to build a team. There is such a team spirit in the place and it's down to him.

"We've got a young squad and we want to build a sustainable team, so let's work together into building Chelsea into the team of the next decade.

"There's no issue about Jose being with Chelsea for several years to come. I can tell you his future is very much at Chelsea."

Chelsea legend Peter Osgood also hailed Mourinho and said that he thought the current crop of players would only get better.

"I've been impressed with the team's consistency, I just think this side is going to be a great one for years to come," Osgood told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I think Mourinho's knowledge of the game is unbelievable. He is a great tactician, gives players belief in themselves and buys good players too.

"They clearly all believe in him as well - and when that happens you've got half a chance."

Chelsea's magic numbers

Mourinho, meanwhile, has lavished praise on Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich and has admitted that the Russian tycoon's passion for football makes his job easier.

"A great club owner has to be a noteworthy figure. He is a fantastic owner and him being that makes it easier for a coach to be good," Mourinho told the News of the World.

"Owners don't make coaches but they help coaches to be better. I've been very impressed by his enthusiasm. He wants to understand football a lot. He adores the game."

Abramovich has spent Ł683m on Chelsea since he took over on 1 July 2003 but Kenyon says that the club are not going to carry on spending so freely.

"We've invested a huge amount of money, well over Ł200m on players over the past couple of years but there's a long-term plan over the next five years of recouping on that investment," stated Kenyon.

"We've got enough budget to get the players we want but it's wrong to say we're just going to throw so much money at the club again.

"We did a lot of activity in terms of our squad size last year so there'll be a lot less this time, just a few selected positions."

If he keeps performing like he is now he will stay for that long, question is will he want to move to Real, Barca or Italy? I think he will want to move on after 5 years and try his luck in another elite country.
