Fulham boss Chris Coleman says the London side will continue to look for reinforcements during the January transfer window.

The Cottagers have already signed Tony Warner and New Zealand international Simon Elliot, but Coleman completed his most high profile capture on Tuesday by signing Southampton goalkeeper Antti Niemi.

However Coleman has now warned that further strengthening is required to cope with a mounting injury crisis at Craven Cottage, and that Fulham must not suffer relegation if they succeed in bringing in further recruits.

"We know we need to strengthen," Coleman told Sky Sports News. "You only have to look at our results over the Christmas period.

"We went into that period with a weakened squad and came out of it in an even worse state because of injuries.

"We're trying to strengthen, not with players on free transfers or loan deals, we're looking to invest.

"If we get players in we want it's imperative we stay in The Premier League.

"We're in a precarious position, three points away from the top ten and six away from the bottom three.

"It's still very tight with 17 games to go."

Coleman also confirmed that Fulham's latest star would be thrown into the fray against Newcastle as he stated: "Yes Niemi will start on Saturday."

Meanwhile the 33-year-old former Saint has expressed his belief that he still has four or five years to offer his new side after being handed a deal until 2008, meaning he could finish his career at Craven Cottage.

"Obviously two-and-a-half years, I thought the length of contract was right for me," said Niemi.

"We had a long chat so if everything goes well we'll see the situation in a couple of years time.

"But there's a very good chance this will be my last club so I want to do well here.

"I haven't had any serious injuries so far so hopefully I have another four or five years left in me."

Well, we've landed Queudrue and Bullard, and Runstrom... but i think we are still in need of a replacement for Saha... If we can unload Steeeed for a bit of cash, maybe we can still bring one in. COYW!
