Progress on football club deal |
|
Administrators acting on behalf of cash-strapped Wrexham Football Club have said an announcement on its future could be made next week.
Local car dealer Neville Dickens has made a bid to take over the club, which has debts of around £4m. Mr Dickens lodged "an expression of interest" two weeks ago after deals with other bidders failed. Club owner Alex Hamilton is currently considering the offer. David Acland from administrators Begbies Traynor said he was confident a decision would be reached soon. "Things are progressing and there could be an announcement in the next week or so," he said. Mr Dickens was a Wrexham FC director in the 1980s and one of his garages is on land adjoining the Racecourse stadium. The football club was placed in adminstration last December with debts of more than £4m. It was also deducted 10 points, leaving the League One side facing relegation, with only three games left to the end of the season. The club will be relegated if the team fails to win at Stockport County on Saturday. |
