Norwegian star John Arne Riise has pledged his future to Liverpool by signing a new deal.
The left-sided star has been a key figure for Liverpool since joining from Monaco in the summer of 2001, with his versatility proving invaluable to both Gerard Houllier and Rafa Benitez. Spanish tactician Benitez has been delighted with Riise's efforts and has rewarded him with a new deal which ties him to the club until the summer of 2009. "I'm delighted that John has signed a new deal with us," Benitez told the club's website. "He is a dedicated player, very professional and he has a great mentality. His attitude is first class. He trains well and works hard every day. "He has always done a good job for Liverpool, whether at left back or in left midfield, and it's great news that we can include him in our plans for the coming years. "He's been a good servant, a good player to have around and a good team-mate. "He can play in several positions for us and has been outstanding in the near two seasons I have been here. "I am delighted he has extended his contract." |
