Barcelona are moving ever closer to securing a deal for Arsenal captain Thierry Henry.

DiarioSport says there is now "a 90 per cent chance" that Henry will sign for Barca after giving his verbal commitment to the Spanish Liga leaders.

Barca are confident they can sign Henry for around £10 million in the summer, when he will have less than 12 months existing on his present Gunners deal.

Barca coach Frank Rijkaard is a close friend of Henry and has already outlined his plans to the Frenchman. The pair struck up a friendship between 1995 and 1998 when they were both living in Monaco.

Amazingly, Rijkaard is said to have not guaranteed Henry a starting place at Barca - where the striker would have to compete with Samuel Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi for a spot in attack. However, Henry remains enthusiastic about the move.

I prefered that Barça didn't sign him but if he accepts that sometimes he will be in the bench it will be a positive thing.

I dont think he would be on the bench, i think that Barcelona would find a way of incorporating Eto'o, Ronaldinho and Henry.

But Messi can't be always in the bench. Messi will play a lot of games and Henry will have to be in the bench.

Diario Sport has the same credibility of a drunk monkey Rolling Eyes
Anyway, I don't think Henry would be on the bench... At least he wouldn't if I was the manager

What I've listened is that Barça have a verbal agreement with Henry since last summer but now they are doubting because they didn't think that Messi was a player so good like he has been.

yeah i think during his holidays Henry was on the phone to some of his pals at Barcelona and they said if things dont work out at Arsenal next season why not sign for us . Apparently Henry said `sure `and so that why he is now 90% certain to go .

Oh yeah......i was being sarcastic . Razz

Yes conner you always are. Apparently Henry is being offered a real lucrative deal at Arsenal.

*What is 90% sure? How do u measure "sure"? Is it just an escape phrase when you fail in your objective?

yeah,Messi's awesome and i would never drop Ronaldhino and Etoo so they dont need Henry and for back up,they have Larsson,Ezquerro and Lopez (He's not that good but least he's there)

I dont think you can say any team that wants to win football games doesnt 'need' Henry. Whats wrong with having three great strikers? Etoo, Messi, and Henry would be one of the deadliest strikeforces ever put together i think and Barca certainly wont be worrying about having only two places for them if Henry does decide to go there.

Eto'o is much younger and Barcelona can score at will. Goals aren't a problem for them. So tightening the defence I'd think would be more of a priority than splashing out for a 29yr old Henry.

Besides T. is happy here! He's going nowhere!

The problem of having too much strikers in one team is that sometimes one of them has to be in the bench and then perhaps he complains and the ambient of the group is worse.

I totally agree, and I have said this before. That money needs to be spent elsewhere, and 'in the back' is a perfect spot. I don't have a problem saying that Barcelona doesn't need Henry. When they have other needs that should be addressed and ignore them to purchase Henry sort of reminds me of how business is run by the president of another top Spanish team. I think LaPorta is a bit wiser than that and won't fall into that trap......but, I may be wrong..... Cool

The Zaragoza game during the week proved Barca need some more cement slapped on to their backline. Look at the goals Messi has been contributing to, Larsson is still a class finisher too. So they've no problem in scoring. Although, Eto'o hinted that he would leave if Henry came and took his place. Why sacrifice your top scoring 24 year old for a new 29 year old?

La Porta Cool He'd buy every big name player in the world if he had time and money to do it. Réal really need to strengthen their defence! Hopefully they won't be strong enough for our strike force in a few weeks. Razz

Yep, Real Madrid defence is bad bad bad! But hey, Arsenal's one is not so impressive eh?? And I prefer Real Madrid strikers (Ronaldo, Raúl, Robinho, Cassano, Baptista, Soldado) than Arsenal ones.
