i think given should be next captain it doesn't matter if he's a keeper or an outfield player he has the potential to be a great captain and should be rewarded for his loyalty to the club

Scott Parker for sure. Plays in the centre of the park so is involved in almost everything.

Scott parker, hes a natural leader. Hes always first in for the ball, gives more each game than any player in the team and is someone others should look up too. He will be a great captain

That said I think now Shearer's gone Sad Sad Owen would thrive on having the captain's armband, to carry on as it were! But I do take your point about Parker also

Owen..

I also take your point about owen, however what worries me is his constant injuries (having a captain that is injured often is useless) and the fact while he is a good goal scorer, isn't the type of leader or motivator that you would associate with a captain. I also still feel hes still settling in, i mean he only played 10 odd games for us with his long injury

I'd have to say Dyer.

I'd like it to be Given but I'm not sure about Roeder choosing a goalie as captain, and Owen hasn't been at Newcastle for very long so I dont think it will be him (maybe in a year or two if he's still at Newcastle.)

Next captain. Hmmm... perhaps someone with actual leadership ability. Or someone who has more complete set of skills other than passing and set pieces.

I think either Nevill, Terry, or Lampard.

should be Scott Parker, a firm fans favourite, always gives 110% and a very level headed player. Given is a great player but im usually against giving captains to goalkeepers if there are better options in the middle of the park.

Scott can control the midfield and will be a great captain. Though, i have a funny feeling the captains armband will go to Shay.

Scott Parker is the new captain of Newcastle United.
Shay Given is vice-captain.

There is a good article on nufc.co.uk

I think its great news that Scotty Parker has been named as our captain he is a terrific guy both on and off the field. He allways gives it 100% on the pitch and you never hear of him being in trouble off the field. Plus he is better at going forward as we have seen so far just look at his wonder goal against Charlton and I remember watching a super sunday match which Southampton beat Charlton 3-2 in a classic and Parker scored 2 screamers from 25 yards +. I also think its better having a captain in midifled rather than in goal (no disrespect to Shay) as he can see the wider picture and he can really encourage and motivate his team mates better, though having Shay as vice captain is still terrific.

Next Captain ?
