Let me be the first person to congratulate Paul Jewell and Wigan Athletic on reaching the final of the Carling Cup. What an amaizing turn around for a club who were not in the league 30 years ago.

If Manchester United make it into the final, if my calculations are correct, no matter what Wigan do, they will be playing in the UEFA Cup next season. This is based on the fact Man United are unlikely to finish outside the top four.

What a fantastic season this is turning out to be for everyone involved at Wigan.

Nice to see them getting to the final as they totally deserve it.

Its a great achievent. When they went 1-0 down I felt that Jewell will have pointed out that Wigans main aim should be to score a goal, as losing 2-1 to Arsenal is as good as a 1-1 draw. I dont know many people who enjoy penalty shoot-outs.

I knew someone wearing blue and white would knock you out eventually!

What was the final score? Did it reach penalties or even extra time?

Sadly I think you are mistaken. FA Cup runners up get into UEFA on that basis but I believe that if Carling cup winners qualify though league position then the sixth placed premiership team gets the spot..though that could easily be Wigan. Having said that there is every possibility they could win the final the way their season is going!!

Carling Cup winners get the UEFA Cup but Man U will be in something in Europe already so I guess it has to go to Wigan surely? Maybe it goes to 6th if say Arsenal and Man U are in the final because they would both be in Europe, well maybe not this year Laughing

yeah , only the Carling Cup winners get into the Uefa Cup . Wigan could still miss out if they lose the final and finish outside the top six in the Premiership .
