Torquay have installed former Exeter City boss John Cornforth as a temporary replacement for departed manager Leroy Rosenior.
After slumping back into the League Two relegation zone Rosenior was shown the door at Plainmoor on Wednesday, and Cornforth wasted no time in putting his name forward.
Gulls coach Richard Hancox had been expected to take temporary charge but he was not keen on the post on a full time basis, and Cornforth will now look to stake a strong claim for a permanent role as he prepares the squad to face Shrewsbury on Saturday.
Chairman Mike Bateson confirmed Cornforth's arrival, whilst insisting he will take his time over a replacement for Rosenior as he wades through a number of applications
