Garcia: Ball crossed the line |
|
Luis Garcia grabbed his fifth goal in this season's Champions League to send Liverpool into the final on May 25 in Istanbul, insisting he had no doubts the effort was over the line.
The Spanish midfielder pounced to hook home a fourth-minute shot that ensured Liverpool completed a 1-0 aggregate victory over Chelsea at Anfield. TV replays have failed to confirm that the ball was over the line, with William Gallas hooking clear. But Garcia, whose goals have been crucial to Liverpool reaching their sixth European Cup final, said: "When Milan Baros was brought down by the keeper I just kept going and hooked it towards the goal, I felt it went in and I am very happy now." Chelsea keeper Petr Cech had flattened Baros in the run-up to the goal, but all appeals for a penalty were ended when referee Lubos Michel allowed Garcia's follow-up. The 26-year-old said: "It was an important win and for me a very important game and goal. "When we arrived here last summer we were intent on winning some trophies, but I do not think we expected to get to the Champions League final in our first season in England. "It was not just me, everyone was a hero out there. We had to defend and work so hard, it was difficult to keep the ball and when we saw six minutes go up it was almost too much for us. "But this is not just about the players, it is so important for the club too. For us to get to the final is beyond all our dreams, and for me to score the goal is a special moment too." |

this is crap, it was the linesman on the far side that gave the goal! how the hell could he see if it had crossed the line or not, as his vision was blocked by gallas!
IT WAS NEVER A GOAL! |

On the bright side, this means Chelsea are out! Though i would have preffered to see them go through and get absolutely hammered by AC Milan. Think about it. The greatest defense in the world versus drogba (biggest waste of £28m ive ever seen) and kezman (so much for his previous dutch 'record')
To be 100 % honest though, i dont think it was a goal. But then again, how would Chelsea have coped losing their no. 1 goalkeeper (red card) with a penalty straight after this (which gerrard would have most likely ripped the net open with) I mean, cudicin must have an advanced case of pins and needles from beeing Chelseas most used bench warmer, so he could hardly be expected to perform. At the end of the day though, this is another wot if scenario. What if David Beckham hadnt left Man Utd for real madrid. What if Man Utd we'rent knocked out of last season Champions League by porto. What if that Tottenham 'goal' was given following the carrol blunder. We could go on forever with this list, but it just goes to show what an unpredictable (West Brom 1 Man Utd 1. What was that about?!?!) game football is. You've just gotta love it.... |

cudicini is still the 2nd best keeper in the premiership after cech as he showed against charlton this weekend.
And goaline technology should be introduced, its used in all other sports so why not football??? And it would stop the arguments and make results fairer. |
