Swansea City Triumph |
|
The City of Swansea was rejoicing Saturday afternoon as 2000 fans filled hospitality suites around the Liberty stadium to watch their team beat Gillingham 2-1 away from home to secure promotion to the Championship. The Jacks managed to get permission from both Gillingham and the Football League to show the match on TV, and all 2000 tickets were snapped up promptly.
It has been 24 long years since Swansea were last in the second tier of the Football League, and fans swarmed the city in jubilant celebration. After selling Lee Trundle to Bristol City last summer, City fans wondered if they would be able to replace him, however new boy Jason Scotland has settled in, and fired Swansea to the top of League One. As a superb season draws to a close, Swansea will set their sites on clinching the title, and with a 7 point cushion between them and Carlisle, it looks likely. Welsh football is on a high at the moment with Swansea gaining promotion, and rivals Cardiff preparing for an FA Cup final at Wembley. So Roberto Martinez’s men kept their bottle, and with Guillem Bauza the hero of the day, they now have Championship football to look forward to next season. Although I am a Bluebird, I have to take my hat off to Swansea City and congratulate them on a superb season. |

Congratulations to Swansea, I'm pleased for them as most of my Mums side of the family are from Swansea so i like to see them do well occasionally. Martinez has done a great job there and further boosted his legendary status with Swan fans no doubt.
I just hope we wont have to play them in the League next year! |

Teams are really stepping up their game when going there to Swansea, good result indeed from Yeovil. Bournemouth continue their attempts to make a great escape with another good result, might be beyond them at this late stage though. Gillingham will be gutted to be robbed of three points so late at Bristol Rovers, i think they're down now in all honesty, Crewe's win releaves a bit of the pressure. Carlisle's slipping up could open the door for Doncaster and the chasers. Brighton still within reach of the top six.

I don't mind Swansea - I always remember them in my panini sticker album when I was a nipper when they were in the top tier, had a Patrick kit with a round collar - Alan Curtis played for them I think.
My sisters husband also follows them but thats not his fault. Anyway congratulations Swansea, would be great to see you step up another level next year. P.S. One thing I meant to ask, is The Jacks their nickname, or is derogitory slang used by rival fans, what does it mean? |

How much funds do Swansea receive for promotion? |
|
Just wondering how much funds Swansea receive for promotion?
I understand that teams promoted into the premier league receive 60 million pounds. What do the next tier teams receive for CC. Aristotle |
