Arsenal's Pires, Luque on Espanyol ticket |
|
Newcastle United winger Albert Luque and Arsenal midfielder Robert Pires are both on an Espanyol presidential ticket.
Claudio Biern met with Jose Antonio Camacho and proposed Pires and Luque to the coach, along with previous names Javier Saviola, Michael Ballack and Fernando Morientes. Biern has the backing of Jose Manuel Lara Bosch and is challenging Daniel Sanchez Llibre for the Espanyol presidency. Camacho will discuss his commitment to the ticket with Lara and Biern on Sunday. |

All the people say that Dani Sanchez Llibre will continue being the president.

Pires might not have a choice tho, if a decent amount of money is offered for him i can see Wenger cashing in on the aging winger. The money would look nice in the bank for Wenger.

at the moment, if the right price was offered for Pires, I would cash in on him....(actually, there may be a couple more I'd throw in as well.....)

Like the whole team apart from Henry and Van Persie???

They certinally seem to be ambitous Espanyol!
They're never gonna challenge their neighbours though no matter how hard they try! |

Please tell me your joking Cygan is probably the only player I wouldn't miss. Gilberto on this season's form - I wouldn't miss leaving either - But I know what he's capable of when at the top of his game. Pires is highly important to the Arsenal squad and he's played well this season when he has gotten games. Look at the goals he's scored & the important one's. His through ball to Henry to break the Arsenal scoring record was a prime example of what else he's great at! |

well, at the risk of going off topic to answer your question, Lehmann I have never been a fan of, he's shakey at best, and an idiot without a doubt, and Gilberto should be embarassed to collect his pay..... But, back on topic, I can see Pires moving on........ |

In the 49 unbeaten run, Lehmann was outstanding. He's also been our most consistent player along with Toure and Fabregas this season. What keeper doesn't have shaky moments? Dida was voted 2nd best Keeper in world, and he messes up - per week. I agree with you on Gilberto this season. But Pires signed a new contract, so how can you see him going soon? He's still got a lot to give us. He's a kind of player I've never seen before. His ability to pop up out of nowhere and score a tap-in is great. Before his really bad injury, he was the best Premiership player (he got the trophy to prove that) and when he came back from injury he was never the same and lost a lot on the physical aspect of his game. But he, like Dennis learnt how to use his talents so well. |

Well, I'm glad you're a Lehmann supporter. Because I'm not. I'll leave it at that. Believe me, this was a topic that was and has been discussed at length........
Also, I guess I missed it (?), but when did Pires sign a new contract? I have nothing against Pires, I just no longer feel he's a 90 minute player and while he was never was anything to talk about defensively, I think his game lacks it even more now. And with our current midfield situation, I think you need to play both ends....... Again, nothing wrong with agreeing to disagree....... |

Yea, I don't want to develop an argument, just a healthy discussion and to hear other Arsenal fans views.
If I could, I'd replace Lehmann. But I can't fault him for anything this season. I thought he's been class. Some dodgy kickouts and crazy mistakes in his Arsenal shirt but all keepers have wobblers. I tend to look at the advantages and disadvantages of players, rather than make critique about their bad bits. Pires for me is a great player. He never was a good defensive player. But look at the goals he's bagged. The equaliser against Spurs showed what kind of player he is. Ofcourse he's slowing down with age, but his wisdom has grew. Just like Dennis.. Gilberto and Fabregas have showed lack of defensive duties and they (the more central players) have to be doing that well - Although Flamini I think has been class, but lacking enough first team play. Pires has lost his place to Reyes this season, simply because José has that youthful pace, great skill and hard work-rate. Compare their goal tallies though, or goal-to-game ratio's and you'll see how effective and useful Pires is and always has been. |

I thought it was confirmed that he'd take a £20,000 pay cut. I apologise if this is wrong.
