I know this has been discussed here before, but it seems to me some of these rivlaries have been overrated. Take MU-Liverpool. Fierce rivals, but have they ever been good at the same time? Pools' heyday was when MU was in the middle of a 25 year title drought. Since then it's been the reverse.

I think to have a historical rivalry be a true classic, both teams need to have been good at roughly the same time. I think Everton-Pool was a better rivalry at least in the 80's because they were trading the title between each other. Arsenal-MU in the last 15 years because they've each won their share of titles. Pool and Manu simply haven't been good enough at the same time to call it a classic rivalry in my opinion. Thoughts?

As of right now Arsenal - Man Utd.

but the Premisership doesn't really have any huge rivalries like Barca-Real, Celtic-Rangers, AC-Inter and so forth.

Most teams hate Man Utd but Man Utd only really care about winning trophies and not individual rivalries because we see ourselves as better than everyone else and above that. It's always nice to beat Liverpool but if we don't then who cares, it's only another match to us.

Newcastle and sunderland is massive. you lot dont realise it because its not always the best match to watch but i can tell you that it means so much. i think its hard for other fans to get a feel how big this derby is. its on sunday and im already excited/nervous. its even bigger this year because we are close to each other in the league. we better win, would be well gutted if we lost

Liverpool and Man U get about as bitter as it gets in england, probably the next closest would be millwall-West Ham if it happened regular

Newcastle-Sunderland is probably the biggest emotional rivalry even it's insignificant football wise.

Derbies are much more deep rooted than just simply success. United & Liverpool might not have been battling with each other for the title but its still probably the biggest in England..

If you put it to Fergie and asked him if he could win the title on the last day, and have it ripped out of the grasp of another side, who that side would be then he'd pick Liverpool within a shot. He loves beating Liverpool and knowing he's made United the dominant English side, and if he isn't Manchester United then i don't know who is.

For me the Arsenal - Manchester United 'derby' is solely because the two sides have dominated the Premier League era. If the two fell away there'd be little animosity lingering around afterwards. Perhaps i'm wrong, but that's my impression.

i would love to say Spurs vs Arsenal...but the class gap is so big its not even a decent game anymore...
