It takes into account league and European competition......so it provides a balanced view of a team's form and performance over the season. League form has a bearing but as you can see Everton are 10th and Real Madrid 12th in the rankings........since they are likely to finish 5th and 1st in their respective leagues...one can see that the European competition has a substantial impact on the rankings. HOW IT WORKS Scores are based on points per game in domestic league and European games. Domestic points per game are multiplied by the league coefficient - either 4, 4.5 or 5 - with teams in stronger leagues getting more credit. Champions League (or Super Cup) victories are counted from the third qualifying round onward as three points for a win and multiplied by a coefficient of 5. UEFA Cup victories are counted from the first round as three points for a win and multiplied by a coefficient of 4. Domestic and European totals are then added together. If a side has played in both Champions League and UEFA Cup, its European total is an average of the two scores. League coefficients: England, Spain, Italy = 5 Germany, Portugal, France = 4.5 Others = 4 Example: Manchester United 77 points from 33 Premier League games = 2.33 points per game. Multiplied by league coefficient of five - 2.33 x 5 = 11.67 23 points from 9 Champions League games (including qualifying) = 2.56 points per game. Multiplied by Champions League coefficient of five - 12.50 Total score = 11.67 + 12.50 = 24.44 |

Well league form is off-topic. Find a list with only European form. Post domestic form ladders in their respective league forums.

Yet more sour grapes from another Liverpool supporter....I guess you don't like to see the true picture. I shall continue posting the stats unless a moderator says otherwise. The stats are a valid topic on this thread in my opinion. They are titled 'Champions League - European Ranking System' by the website that produces the information. |

Yes but they are Champions League and domestic form.
Surely you can see in a Champions League section of the forum, domestic form isn't vaild?? Like I said put your domestic form guides and ladders in a domestic section. |

The ranking isn't a domestic ranking so it definitely isn't appropriate to put it in the domestic section. The ranking is a European comparison of performance so it is appropriately placed in the European thread, and as you can see from the description on 'How It Works', the league performance is multiplied by a European league ranking co-efficient. You also need to bare in mind that Champions League entry is dependant upon league position so the two are inextricably linked. |

How can you take it seriously if it has Everton above Real Madrid? |

The table is an accurate reflection of this years form. Only 5 teams from the EPL have managed to get into the top 20 of the table. It's no coincidence that those 5 teams are currently the top 5 in the EPL and have also achieved good performances in Europe. Real Madrid score 10.91 for their current league position as opposed to Evertons 8.71, however, Everton have actually performed better than Real in Europe this year, Real lost their last two games to Roma and only score 6.87 points. Everton also went out at the last 16 stage in the Uefa cup but managed better results and scored 10.0, and bear in mind that the Uefa Cup co-efficient is a smaller value than the Champions League, highlighting further Evertons superior performance to Real in Europe. The table clearly shows Liverpool outperforming both Arsenal and Chelsea in Europe, as you obviously currently sit below both teams in the EPL. I take it seriously because it is based on recent results, what better way is there to measure a teams performance? |

Champions League - European Power Rankings
Eurosport - Tue, 06 May 12:20:00 2008 Manchester United are under fire from Chelsea in Premier League, Champions League and European Power Rankings. Manchester United still lead the way after reaching the Champions League final and getting their Premier League season back on track. But their main rivals - as in real life - are now Chelsea, not Barcelona. Avram Grant's men have made an impressive late-season charge and are now hot on United's tail. Barça plummet from second to fifth on the back of some truly useless domestic form, while Liga champions Real Madrid's dreadful season in Europe means they remain outside the top 10. Bayern Munich were also crowned champions last weekend, but drop three places to 16th as a result of their UEFA Cup exit. Zenit St Petersburg do not even feature in the top 20 thanks to a poor league record of seven points from six games. European Power Rankings 1 (1) Manchester United - 23.85 2 (7) Chelsea - 20.93 3 (5) Arsenal - 20.81 4 (3) Internazionale - 20.63 5 (2) Barcelona - 20.39 6 (6) Porto - 19.92 7 (4) Liverpool - 19.86 8 ( 9 (9) Roma - 19.33 10 (11) Fenerbahce - 18.43 11 (10) Everton - 18.38 12 (12) Real Madrid - 18.02 13 (14) Milan - 17.22 14 (15) Olympiacos - 16.83 15 (16) Hamburg - 16.60 16 (13) Bayern Munich - 16.58 17 (17) Werder Bremen - 16.52 18 (19) Lyon - 16.00 19 (1 20 (20) Rangers - 15.40 I note that Liverpools exit from the Champions League has plummeted them from 4th to 7th position in Europe |

Mate, so ManU and Chelsea have the same domestic points(Due to them having the same points in the league now) but are only separated by the Champions League perfomance(almost 3 points according to your list) even though they are both in the Finals???
Just asking mate... |

Yes Immortal that's correct. It's a reflection of their relative form in the Champions League this year. United remain the ONLY unbeaten side in the competition. |

Champions League - European Power Rankings
Eurosport - Tue, 13 May 15:25:00 2008 Manchester United have won the Premier League and look to have one hand on the inaugural Power Rankings title. Manchester United top the pile with a handy cushion after wrapping up their 10th Premier League title in 16 seasons. The last-minute equaliser Chelsea conceded against Bolton had no effect on their league position, but sees them drop to third in the Power Rankings behnd Arsenal. Internazionale led these rankings for much of the season but have now dropped to fourth after another stumble in Serie A. Yet the nerazzurri look in rude health next to Barcelona, whose season has fallen apart completely. They drop two more places to seventh. One of the biggest surprises is that Liga champions Real Madrid are as low as 12th - that position comes courtesy of their dire Champions League form this term. UEFA Cup finalists Rangers prop up the table in 20th, while Zenit St Petersburg do not even feature after a poor start to the domestic season in Russia. European Power Rankings 1 (1) Manchester United - 23.95 2 (3) Arsenal - 20.92 3 (2) Chelsea - 20.77 4 (4) Internazionale - 20.46 5 (5) Sevilla - 20.24 6 (7) Liverpool - 20.00 7 (5) Barcelona - 19.90 8 (9) Roma - 19.45 9 (6) Porto - 19.10 10 (11) Everton - 18.55 11 (10) Fenerbahce - 18.17 12 (12) Real Madrid - 17.96 13 (13) Milan - 16.99 14 (17) Werder Bremen - 16.84 15 (14) Olympiacos - 16.83 16 (16) Bayern Munich - 16.81 17 (15) Hamburg - 16.15 18 (16) Lyon - 16.12 19 (19) Fiorentina - 15.66 20 (20) Rangers - 15.56 |
