Champions League - European Power Rankings
Eurosport - Tue, 08 Apr 11:10:00 2008
There is no change once again at the summit of Eurosport's Power Rankings this week with a Cristiano Ronaldo-inspired Manchester United remaining top dog in Europe.

We take into account both domestic and European performances, plus the relative difficulty of each team's league, to find out who is the best team in Europe.

United were held to a draw by Middlesbrough at the weekend but, thanks to their commanding 2-0 win over Roma in the Champions League, Alex Ferguson's side not only managed to hang on to top spot, but also to extend their lead.

Their nearest rivals are now Barcelona who, despite drawing with Getafe in La Liga, leapfrog Arsenal into second largely thanks to their 1-0 win over Schalke earlier in the week.

The Gunners' two 1-1 draws in their double-header with Liverpool sees them slip into third, even though the results were kinder for the Reds, who jump into fifth.

But the biggest movers this week are the Italian teams in the top half of our table. Roma's defeat to United proved costly and Luciano Spalletti's side drop four places into eighth, while Internazionale move up three places into fourth after a 2-0 win over Atalanta.

Chelsea's midweek conquerors Fenerbahce remain in 10th, although their impressive victory coupled with a win in the Turkish league closes the gap on Sevilla in ninth.

Finally, Porto celebrated winning the Portuguese title at the weekend by inching up a place in the Power Rankings table to seventh while Bayern's draw with Getafe in the UEFA Cup means they end the week on 13th.

You are aware of what "power rankings" are right? It's based on simply the past week or so and means almost nothing.

Here's the one UEFA has:

What does 'almost nothing' mean Mrtz? Maybe it only means nothing to you because it clearly shows Liverpool are not in the top four in Europe on current form. The UEFA chart you have put up also clearly shows Manchester United with the highest current rating for 2007/08 = 29.445

What is it Thiery Henri says - It doesn't matter what happened yesterday.....it's only today that matters Wink

No, not at all, but I would rather look at something produced by UEFA than by Yahoo.

And if you look at the UEFA one for 2008, Manchester United is in first anyway.

With this section being for the Champions League, i feel obliged to post the UEFA Coefficients which takes into consideration teams performances over the last five years in European competitions.

As of the end of 2006/2007 season:

Oh would you look at that, Liverpool are four places above Manchester United. Wink

Flipper - And why would you say that?

Roonawhatever - Have a look at the 07/08 one, they only have like 5.something. United are first with over 29. So this list is a little hard to swallow for you because United isn't on top then overall? Wink Have a look at the 07/08 bit and you'll see that they are.

Ok mrtz...cheers Wink The stats show that in the last 20 years Newcastle have been in the Champions League, for real, on 2 occasions - 1998 out in R1, 2003 out in R2. Their rating has been achieved on performances in the UEFA cup.

When I see Liverpool above us......it's always hard to swallow Wink

because.. dear marty.. we're the only team to share the same points and get stuck with Chelsea.. and why the heck that allows Chelsea to be printed first.. i think we're far better than them in everything.. that's it.. total manipulation.. Laughing

i don't mind the 7th rank actually.. as it's my fave number after all.. but seems like it's a little bit odd how we get the 7th position in both list.. Confused

and yeah.. he's roo.. get rid of the whatever.. Razz can't ever stand being number two.. i suppose.. always want the numero uno.. right?.. Very Happy

I guess Liverpool fans have to take their glories over Man Utd where they can. Even if it's trivial ranking systems.

Champions League - European Power Rankings
Eurosport - Thu, 24 Apr 16:18:00 2008
A disappointing goalless draw between Manchester United and Barcelona means there is no change at the top of the European Power Rankings this week.

United continue to lead despite not having won a game over the past week - their stalemate at the Nou Camp followed a 1-1 draw at Blackburn - as Barca could not find a win either.

The Catalan giants were held by Espanyol in La Liga at the weekend to leave United tantalisingly close to claiming the inaugural Power Rankings title.

Elsewhere, Julio Cruz's wonderful diving header at Torino lifted Internazionale above Liverpool and into third.

Despite Rafa Benitez's side winning 2-0 in the Premier League at Fulham, their midweek draw with Chelsea in the Champions League prompted a slide to within 0.06 points of Arsenal - who climb from sixth to fifth after strolling past Reading at the Emirates.

Chelsea may have beaten Everton away to keep alive their Premier League title ambition, and trumped that with a priceless away goal in the Champions League semi-final at Anfield, but they drop two places from fifth to seventh regardless.

While mid-table remains stagnant, Milan jump up two places to 14th following their 5-1 annihilation of relegation likely lads Reggina at the San Siro - a game which saw Brazilian midfielder Kaka grab a hat-trick.

Hamburg's 0-0 draw at Berlin sees them move the other way, while Werder Bremen climb one place from 17th to 18th by virtue of a 2-1 away win at Rostock on Tuesday night.

Fabio Grosso's winner for Lyon against Strasbourg takes the French league leaders to 19th.

Finally to Rangers, who fall from 17th to 20th as a result of Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink's last-gasp winner for Celtic in the Old Firm derby. Their place in the top 20 appears secure, however, with Benfica a massive point behind in 21st.

European Power Rankings

1 (1) Manchester United - 23.84

2 (2) Barcelona - 21.52

3 (4) Internazionale - 20.85
