Well spotted. But will be early contenders for it surely? Or you here for an argument? If so |

What has he done? How about putting together at team for about 25% the cost of Man Utd's and Chelsea's, but still challenging them, in a time when money is everything. Also, they were very unlucky to go out of the CL to Liverpool (some very poor refereeing decisions), and even in the league, if it wasn't for the disaster in the Birmingham game, and all the bad decisions that came afterwards in the following weeks, i'm sure Arsenal would still be challenging. In fact, i think they would still be at the top of the table.
He overachieved with his Arsenal team. Last season they were light years off challenging for the league, but despite losing their best player, they've imrpoved immeasurably, and are very unlucky to not be finishing with a trophy in the cabinet. Has Fergie overachieved with the players he has at his disposal? In the summer Man U went out and spent over £50m to bring in the likes of Hargreaves, Tevez, Anderson and Nani, to a side that was already far superior to Arsenal's team. Wenger somehow managed to get the best out of the players h had (or get them overachieving), and to the surprise of everybody, they were leading the title race for much of the season, and playing the most mesmerising brand of football we have seen in some time. |

Arsenal are a team who should be looking to win something every year whether it be the fa cup or the league or the other cup. Memoring football we have seen but won nothing? Remember when Dundee once played entertaining football, means nothing tho if your not going to win anything. Arsenal short of money yet look how much they spent on the emirates. Please Wenger has money we all know that. Wenger is just very clever with his money |

The brand of football means very little, and that was why is was one of the last things i mentioned. I don't give a rat's ass about good football, but the fact is, he got an inferior team competing with the very best. Yes it's ifs and buts, but surely you could see the terrible decisions they had go against them in the later stages of the league and Champions League?

Every team gets terrible decisions. His team were once the best. So he loses his best player and now they cant win anything, would mean they were a 1 man team? |

Redknapp or Ferguson.

No asswipe just correcting silly mistakes that you make to avoid misunderstanding. My opinion. It's either going to be Alex Ferguson or Avram Grant depending on who wins the league but I wait until the end of the season and see who. If Chelsea win the league then Grant deserves it. He has got a lot of stick from Chelsea fans but he's done alright for his first season. |

I'd be inclined to give it to Redknapp if Pompey finished in the top six, he's brought in some good talent competed for European football all season and made the final of the F.A Cup, beating United at Old Trafford on the way. Moyes deserves a mention being involved in the battle for fourth all season long, Bruce has come in and stabilised Wigan and stopped their rot, Ferguson will obviously be a front runner of United finished the season strongly on the domestic and European front.

Rafa should get it.
For being a magician.......getting a VERY average team to the semi-final of the Champions League......with the club itself in crisis. |

He knows he's overachieving with the current crop and yet he doesn't want to bolster his squad. Its like knowing you can do better but you just don't want to. That's an even bigger crime. |

Good post Sticky, but i disagree on that. |

So is this for best manager of the premiership or best manager in all competitions or leagues? I was under the impression that it was just for the premier league. |

That's a good point Monty. I think people have generally taken other comps into consideration, like the Champions League, UEFA Cup and FA Cup.

Any winner of the Champions League has good to have a good shout of being best manager of the season even if it is Benitez.

No one expected Arsenal could maintain that form? They were 5 points clear but a few months ago, no one expected they could win from that? And you think I'm being ridiculous? Okay, Sticky I personally think you are talking rubbish but okay. Arsenal went into meltdown and Wenger just brushed it aside, they won't come out on top because they didn't have the bottle, they don't have the attitude of true winners instilled into them. Are you saying that a player, nevermind a captain, would walk away from a penalty against his team and start kicking advertising hoardings and then sit in the middle of the pitch crying after his teammates had already left the pitch and have his manager come out and drag him into the changing rooms, under a Sir Alex or Benitez or even a Mourinho? Arsenal threw away a 5 point gap, crashed out of 3 cup competitions and went on an abysmal run as the finish to the season drew near and you think that is manager of the year material? Give me a break. |

I don't think Benitez has really done that badly given all the crap behind the scenes at Liverpool.

If Portsmouth win the FA Cup, then definately Rednapp...heck I take that back...for him to have taken Portsmouth to the FA Cup, he's my pick.
