Paul Jewell hailed Wigan's promotion to the Premiership as an "unbelievable achievement" after the 3-1 win over Reading booked their top-flight status.
"The players were so determined after last year and I never had doubts," said Jewell, who has been told to pick his own new contract by owner Dave Whelan.

"The players deserve all the plaudits, for Wigan to be in the Premiership is an unbelievable achievement.

"We didn't look like we had any nerves, we were sharp and got the goals."

Last season Wigan missed out on a play-off place on the final day of the season after losing to West Ham.

"I'm delighted not to be going into those play-offs," Jewell added.

"We were outstanding first half and second half we just had to dig in. I'm so pleased for the players.

"The hard work starts almost immediately. We'll enjoy tonight and tomorrow, but as soon as the euphoria dies down we have to put our sensible heads on and think about next season."

Jewell to get £25m

Whelan has bankrolled Wigan's assault on the Premiership and has promised Jewell as much as £25m to spend in the summer on improving the squad.

He has also told the manager he can pick his contract over the summer.

"It could be a three, four or five year contract, I will let him choose," said Whelan. "Paul Jewell can sign for as long as he wants."

Whelan, who has spent £75m on the club over the last 10 years, hailed the players.

"The boys have given everything they've got and I must give credit to Paul Jewell," Whelan said.

"We started well and then sat back and defended the two-goal lead, but we're there, we've got Man United and the big boys and we're really looking forward to it.

"The team aren't ready for the Premiership just yet but we'll go into the market.

"We're not just going to be around for one year. I can rest assured we'll give it a good go next year."

75M in 10 years, which made them go from Conference to Premiership in that time... and now 25M to stay there... that is what i call good management... well done Wigan! Cool

Congratulations to them.
Im glad they made it but the problem is that they havent got many supporters so it could be a struggle to survive in the prem.

Yes, fair play Paul Jewell and the players!

The Chairman is also a driving force at the club!

I think they will be stable next season but he will have to buy well.
