I am seeing more and more petty arguments posted on the forum, and am going to be clamping down on those people seen to be inciting trouble and stirring. I will also be stamping out those people who are clearly on here to wind up others.

We have members on this forum of all different ages, from different cultures and backgrounds, some who do not speak English as a first language – but they still manage to get involved in decent discussion about football and other topics. We have young members here who post maturely and steer clear of arguments and confrontation. I can only commend them for this. On the flip side of this however, we have members who are mature only in age – and persist on doing all they can to get a rise out of other members. This is not on, and will be tolerated no longer.

If you fall out with someone, or don’t really like someone, then do the decent thing and stay clear of them, or take your arguments and childish bickering off the forum. From now on my moderator team will remove any posts which are perceived to have been made purely to cause disruption on the forum. Banter is one thing, but when it spills into multiple threads and topics, polluting this forum, then it becomes a problem!

If anyone has a problem with this post, or has a query, then feel free to discuss it with me in private either via PM or via E-Mail.

I just want to support Shane in this.

There are people posting here who seem to just want to cause trouble, and, unfortunately, some members fall for it.

Please remember - this is a nice, friendly forum.

If you'd prefer to be on a different type of forum, you're welcome to leave Wink

Hi all,

As of late there has been an increased amount of posts which contain Abusive language, and content considered as bad taste on the forum. I have advised the Moderator team that we will be clamping down on this in order to make the forum a more friendly place for not only older, more mature members, but also for the youngsters who join up on the forum.

The site is growing rapidly, and with it so ar the hits to the main site and forum. In order for us to continue this and push forward, we have to erradicate any posts which break the forum rules. This shouldn't make a huge difference to the way you guys post, it is just common sense. There are ways to get your point across without resorting to abusive language, and personal insults. This is going to mean changing from the top down and is something that is going to affect us all.

When writing a post, have a read over it before submitting. Then ask yourself, would this post be acceptable on sites such as bbc or sky sports. If the answer is no, then you should amend it so that you are still able to debate and get your opinions across, however you don't resort to breaking the forum rules in order to do so.

Below are the forum rules - please read them again, and follow them as much as possible. I don't want to have to set up word filters for different variations of different swear words as I think you are all mature enough to be able to control yourselves.

Any queries, please let me know.

Quote:
Football.co.uk Forum Rules

Threads/Posts must be civil and tasteful.
Threads/posts considered to be offensive to other members, or considered as bad taste may be edited/deleted by one of the forum moderators. While debating and discussion is fine, we will not tolerate rudeness, insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts. Our decision is final in these matters

Abusive Comments
Football.co.uk will not tolerate insulting posts, personal attacks or purposeless inflammatory posts towards any other member of the forum. If a member does abuse another member then they will be issued a warning, along with details of why they have been warned. If a member repeats the offence, this will result in a permanent ban.

If however you feel that you have been unfairly treated, then contact a member of the Admin team, who will re-view the situation.

Post Quality

Please refrain from posting meaningless threads, one word (or short) non-sense posts, or the such. Also text-talk is not permitted on the forum. Multiple or repeated posting in order to increase your post count is not allowed.

Discussion of illegal activities such as software and music piracy and other intellectual property violations are not allowed.

We reserve the right to remove offensive posts without notice.

Swearing
Although a lot of people are extremely broad-minded and will not be bothered by the use of any known swear word, there are those amongst us who find swearing unacceptable. We have a swear filter to automatically censor most common swear words, but, as it is possible to circumvent this by using similar characters, we sometimes have to manually censor some words. Obviously, some words are worse than others, but generally speaking, if a word is in the swear filter, it is deemed to be unacceptable for use on these forums.

Spam
Advertising, spamming and trolling is not allowed. This includes using the forum email and Private message system to Spam other members.

Discrimination
Discrimination is not tolerated on this forum. Discrimination can take the form of the use of specific words or phrases or can be in the form of a general attitude towards an individual or group of people. For example, making a statement that all black people are criminals is discrimination on the basis of race, is illegal and is unacceptable. Discrimination can be on the basis of race, sex, disability, religion, sexual orientation or political persuasion.

Promotion of other sites.
Members are not permitted to promote another site on Football.co.uk, without the permission of a member of the Admin team. If a member is found to promote/Spam the site with another site then they will be warned/banned. All posts will be removed.

Age Range
Football.co.uk is a family forum, open to all ages; therefore posts need to be respectful. No images or URL of a pornographic nature are welcome and will be removed. Bad Language needs to be kept to a minimum. If a post is found to contain this, then moderators have the ability to edit/delete the post.

Usernames
If a member is found to have multiple accounts, then these accounts may be removed or suspended.

Warnings
Warnings will be issued if a member breaks these simple rules, or causes a disruption to the forum. Warnings can be issued for the following...

* Text Talk
* Short/Pointless Replies/Overuse of Smilies
* Off-Topic Posting
* Personal Insults
* Strong Language
* Racist Comments
* Spamming

In serious cases, a warning will not be appropriate and the account will be suspended for a period of time.

Complaints
If a member has a complaint against another member/moderator/admin, or a post/thread, then contact a member of the admin team via e-mail or PM. Complaints made public on the forum will be removed. Failure to do so in the correct manner may result in you receiving a warning.

Banned Members
If a banned member wishes to return to Football.co.uk after being away for a long period of time, then they need to send an e-mail to shane@football.co.uk requesting permission to do so, otherwise as soon as that member has been noticed, the account will be suspended.

Football.co.uk will do its best to attempt to keep all messages on this forum respectful and within the forum rules. While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

The owners of Football.co.uk reserve the right to edit, delete, move or close any thread for any reason

part of this annoys me a bit.

i now understand that some of our posts are put onto the main site, right?

so they are using our posts and our words by means of attracting new mambers and encouraging visitors in to debate. is permission unnecessary for this then? our words are clearly the view of the auther and not the site itself.

BBC and Sky are not a forum. the discussion part of those sites such as 606 on BBC etc contain far worse than i have ever seen on here. some of the posting quality is embarrassing and swearing and banter/abuse is rife.

while im not arguing with you over the reiteration of the rules im pretty annoyed that firstly it was deemed necessary for two people to PM me regarding my use of language and secondly that the main reasoni was 'warned' over this was because some Tech geek decided to put said post on the front page of the sitewithout asking me and without obviously reading it through first.

its a pretty stupid idea in my opinion. surely what goes on the main site should be monitored as standard anyway regardless of the rules we are meant to adhere to?

its not so much an arguement with you O Dogg, more with the people who seem to think they are the be all and end all of this site when in reality without us on here everyday they would have nothing to offer anybody anyway besides a Football News site that is two a penny on the internet.

This is why we have a strict set of rules that everyone agree's to before signing up on the forum. The user agreement states the following:

Quote:
While the administrators and moderators of this forum will attempt to remove or edit any generally objectionable material as quickly as possible, it is impossible to review every message. Therefore you acknowledge that all posts made to these forums express the views and opinions of the author and not the administrators, moderators or webmaster (except for posts by these people) and hence will not be held liable.

You agree not to post any abusive, obscene, vulgar, slanderous, hateful, threatening, sexually-oriented or any other material that may violate any applicable laws. Doing so may lead to you being immediately and permanently banned (and your service provider being informed). The IP address of all posts is recorded to aid in enforcing these conditions. You agree that the webmaster, administrator and moderators of this forum have the right to remove, edit, move or close any topic at any time should they see fit. As a user you agree to any information you have entered above being stored in a database. While this information will not be disclosed to any third party without your consent the webmaster, administrator and moderators cannot be held responsible for any hacking attempt that may lead to the data being compromised.

This forum system uses cookies to store information on your local computer. These cookies do not contain any of the information you have entered above; they serve only to improve your viewing pleasure. The e-mail address is used only for confirming your registration details and password (and for sending new passwords should you forget your current one).

You agree that you will not post any links on the forum for advertising purposes without the consent of an administrator beforehand.

By registering on the forum you agree to be bound by these conditions.

We want to attract new members to the site, which will increase the amount of discussion on the forum. This is obviously a good thing for you guys as the more discussion and debate going on, the more you will enjoy the forum. We are also going to be looking at the quality of posts we get on the forum, making sure they are of a good standard, aswell as ensuring topics stay "on topic".

As I am sure you will agree, this is a positive move for the forum, and one which will be enforced going forward. We do not want to become overly strict, however I am sure you will agree that these are not massive changes. Asking people not to swear on a public forum isn't going to hurt anyone. The irritating thing is that you will usually find those who use strong language on the boards are usually those who are more than capable of stringing together a top quality post.

We don't want to stop you guys voicing your opinions, and want to know how you, the fans, actually feel about current affairs in football. All we are asking as that when you discuss your feelings on certain topics, you do so in a way which is less likely to cause offence to others reading.

If there are any concerns or issues that you guys have with this, then I am more than happy to discuss them with you.

perhaps there should have been some kind of notification to us that our posts where being displayed on the main page. the site rules merely indicate the posts are kept 'in a database' which is pretty obvious as they can be re-found using the search function (or you could if it actually worked properly).

just like the two polite warnings i recieved i would like to politely suggest to the geeks in charge to actually read through the posts and threads they display on the main page.

whether it contains swearing or not is irrelevant if a post merely contains a smiley or a 2 word post then its hardly attracting members either. i would argue that a passionate post that may contain foul language but is clear to read and is subjectional to a strong point of view then that could and probably would encourage strong debate.

debate blossoms from strong views.

again, im not specifically against the clampdown on swearing, i simply think that the idea of putting random posts on the main page really needs to be thought through and managed a tad better.

Thank you for posting the rules within this thread.
I have also highlighted them in bold, red text so that everyone is aware of the rules.

If you read my post in this thread from 4th September, I announced the following:

As of late there has been an increased amount of posts which contain Abusive language, and content considered as bad taste on the forum. I have advised the Moderator team that we will be clamping down on this in order to make the forum a more friendly place for not only older, more mature members, but also for the youngsters who join up on the forum.

You are not the only one to be contacted regarding your language on the forum.

Stick to the rules going forward, and you will not have to worry about further PM's.

Thanks
Shane Smile

If it makes you feel better Ginger_Man i have also been contacted about my swearing on the forum.

O Dogg came round to my house and contacted my ass several times with a meter long whip while wearing leather and chains and chanting 'TAKE THAT YOU SCUM', then he made me lick his stiletto knee high prostitute boots while i begged to be let back on the forum.

Now how about just leaving out the swearing. I also don't need you to PM me wherever you see someone else swearing - I have a mod team to pick up on that, which you are not part of.

Thank you
