Caretaker boss Martin Scott was a happy man after Hartlepool forced a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth - pipping the Cherries to the last League One play-off place.
"There was pressure from start to finish as whether we were drawing or they were winning, one team was going to go through," Scott explained.

"Bournemouth are an excellent team, but it shows how great it was a performance by us to score two away from home.

"It's been a difficult week for the club but I had belief in the players."

Scott also paid tribute to his predecessor Neale Cooper, who left the club by mutual consent just three days before the final game of their league season.

"It's not just today - Neale's been a big part of what's gone on," he said.

"He's left the club and the club will move forward, but he deserves a lot of credit as well.

"I've gone on record as saying I want the job - I'm passionate, and I think I've shown I can do the job, although it's only been one game.

"I want to thank the chairman for giving me the chance to do it, as he's taken a lot of stick from fans about the decision on Wednesday.

"I think the result today shows he made the right decision."
