Is there a more biased and incompetant national footballing association in World football? 5 years ago, after Celtic knocked Boavista out of the Uefa Cup to progress to the final, they requested for the league to be extended die to fixture pile. Rangers and the rest of the league rightly refused so the SFA rejected the proposal. Today, these shower of f**kwits accepted Rangers request to pro-long the season if they reach the final, despite heavy opposition from Celtic and other clubs involved. Absolute disgrace.

It's on the BBC site but due to the fat cats at work here, they have now banned it. Could someone post the link to the story if they come across it

celtic statement on possible spl extension

Newsroom Staff
CELTIC Football Club believes that today’s announcement by the SPL of a possible extension to this season’s league campaign has compromised the integrity of the competition.

Celtic Chief Executive Peter Lawwell said: “We do not want to disadvantage Rangers should they reach the UEFA Cup final, but we are extremely disappointed and concerned at the manner of the decision-making process – which was done without consultation with the clubs or the SPL board – and the effects on the integrity of the competition.

“In addition, this decision, which will cause a great deal of inconvenience to our supporters and to five other clubs, will also mean that Celtic would have a gap of 11 days before playing our final league fixture. A number of our key first-team players are also due to go on international duty immediately after our scheduled final league game against Dundee United on Sunday, May 18.

“In principle we accept fixture flexibility. However, the league must not be compromised by changing the rules during the course of the competition and these decisions should not be made on an ad hoc basis.

“Therefore, we oppose the decision and feel, in fact, that it has compromised the integrity of the competition.”

From 2003

Rangers forward Ronald de Boer has branded Old Firm rivals Celtic moaners for protesting over fixture congestion.

The reigning champions have accused the Scottish Premier League of bias for insisting they play Rangers in a potentially crucial league clash three days after their Uefa Cup second leg tie against Boavista in Portugal.

But de Boer said fixture pile-ups were part and parcel of being a top European club and advised Celtic to accept their lot.

"The date is set and that's it," the Dutchman said. "If you look at Manchester United, they played Liverpool then Real Madrid, then Newcastle and Arsenal.

"You have to be happy that you are involved in those games and I would love to be in that position.
