Which is cheap, there were talks earlier that his going price was going to be around £20 million to the big boys.

Hleb hates playing on the left he likes to play behind the strikers, im sure you would of liked to have Modric, i know other Arsenal fans would of because they were hoping to sign him last transfer window.

I hate to break it to you, but there are only two teams in North London.

Tottenham Hotspur and Barnet.

The way he says "Arsenal will and can always find someone else better" as well. As if they rescued the likes of Rosicky from the obscure orphanages of north-west Czech Republic as a young, talentless child, Wenger single-handedly transforming him into the dazzling player he is today. The guy was made when they fooking bought him! Any idiot could've 'found' him.

A very good write up on Modric from a lifeling Dinamo fan. (lifted from COYS)

"Hey folks, I thought you'd all like to hear a bit about your latest signing, and I hope with the summary below you'll get the idea of what kind of player you've just managed to sign. By the way, you're hearing this from a Croat and a lifetime Dinamo fan, so I'll definitely be somewhat biased, but I promise I'll try to be as objective as I can. On a side note, beside being Croatian, my silly username comes from an 80's album by a band called Queensryche (I'm sure some of you are fans smiley20.gif ), but enough of that and onto important stuff.

BIO:
Well, the first time Modric caught the public eye in Croatia was actually during his loan spell with Inter Zapresic in season 04/05. Note that prior to that he had "survived" a season loan to Zrinjski Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina), and was even voted as the best league player, despite being only 18 years old at the time. Bosnian league also has a reputation of being extremely physical, so when you take into consideration that Modric is "only" 173cm tall, it just makes his influence there even more impressive. After Bosnia, he ended up on 6-month loan to Inter Zapresic, a suburb side which turned out to be a surprise package of that season and even occupied the first place before the winter break.

After impressing at Inter, Modric was recalled to Dinamo in midwinter break (Inter slowed down afterwards and finished runners-up). Incidentally, his recall collided with Kranjcar's (Dinamo's playmaker at that time) departure to Dinamo's biggest rivals, and so the playmaking role was left vacant and Modric came in to fill it superbly. Since that season, Modric's influence in Dinamo just kept growing until he had imposed himself as an engine and the creative force of both Dinamo (3 times champions in 3 years) and the Croatian NT (he had a debut in a friendly win over Argentina, and was actually voted MOTM by both media and fans). I won't cover his NT games but instead I'll move onto the stuff you'll be interested to hear.

PROS&CONS:
Now the first thing you notice about the guy is that he's somewhat a small figure. No science fiction there.
The only thing these kind of players can do is either be extremely agile (which sort of comes naturally with mentioned heigths) or be "witty" enough and use your body language to trick those taller and bigger than you. Now Modric has enough of both of these things to be competent on extremely high levels. He "outwits" the opposing tacklers by using body-feigns and sudden bursts of acceleration. You could compare him with Franck Ribery here, though I rate the Frenchman as a more pacey&explosive type, and less of a technical and passing type.

But a type of player who's agile, quick, and simply smart enough to stand (or avoid) his ground, depending on the situation. Being adept with his left foot is also a key thing here. He's similar to Samir Nasri of Marseille on this matter as well, though I don't know how many of you know are introduced to that player. To conclude, he's got very good acceleration and solid pace. If he was any faster, well, he'd be a winger. And winger he's not, although he occupies the left side quite often.

His physics aside, the one thing that's left the biggest impression on me is definitely his passing skills.
He's got a superb pass and a keen eye for picking up his teammates. This is definitely his strongest point.
Whether it's a long pass or a through ball, you have that feeling he's always gonna play the right move at the right time. He's absolute quality when it comes to creating openings and on this matter I rate him up there with the best. My top notch passers today are probably the likes of Totti and Valeron, just to give you some points of reference. He's obviously a technical player, which of course means he's got good dribbling skills. Though you could say his (as every playmaker's actually) dribbling is usually just a matter of postponing that killer pass he's going to execute. And that's what he's good at, and the sole reason why you've brought him here, to create openings, to convert all that possession into something your strikers will turn into goals. He's done that job superbly for Dinamo and the NT in the past few years, and I'm confident he'll do it for Spurs for years to come. But just to make all this a little less of a fantasy, Modric does have weak spots.

The obvious one is his aerial presence, which is often second to none. Taking into account his mentioned height, this comes as no surprise. I actually can't remember him scoring a header in his Dinamo games, though that has something to do with him taking all the free kicks. And I'd like to mention those as well. Though he takes all the set pieces at Dinamo, and they are of good quality (scored a few this season actually), there is definitely room for improvement here. I get the feeling he lacks that pace on the ball players like Juninho, Mihajlovic and co. can provide. I guess I'm maybe over critical because these players are world class when it comes to this segment of play. To move on, he's got a solid shot on him, even for a little guy. He's scored quite a few goals this season, and more than one came from outside the box. It's a segment of play that Modric himself has stated he would like to improve, and he's done all throughout this season, both on training and league games. Complimenting him, I'll mention his stamina and his work rate also. He's a tireless runner, always making himself available and always wanting to have the ball at his feet. This, with all the pros I've stated earlier, lets him be involved into everything, lets him dictate the match. Your true, born & bred modern playmaker. We here (Croatia) haven't had this kind of a profile since, well I'd say Boban and Prosinecki, and even though these 2 have made quite a reputation for themselves, I believe Modric has the capacities to go even a step further.

Seeming as I've written half a novel here, I'll try to stop myself now. Oh I'll add a slight personal note though. During Modric's time in Inter Zapresic, he used to train with his team on a pitch that's roughly 50,60m from the house I live in. I remember my old man watching them train and play, and after that saying to me how there's this young kid whose just a class above everyone else, and surely a player bound for bigger and better things. Well, guess what, he was right smiley2.gif

And here ends my rant, I hope you found parts of it useful. And if you've read the whole thing, well it means you're just as enthusiastic as I am in seeing Modric play in Premiership:) Cheers smiley20.gif"

Really interesting write up and he sounds very exciting.

One thing that does make me have an air of caution, is many, many times before we have signed potentially great players and have got just as excited reading excerts from previous fans, opposing supporters condoning a remarkable move etc...only to have our bubble burst when they underperformed or were sometimes unable to deal with the premiership (triggering Goon/Shammer baiting)

Now I'm not saying this will be what will become of Modric, he is undoubtedly a fantastic player - its just some of what I am hearing, I have heard before if you know what I mean?

But I am looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Lillywhite shirt.

so we signed modric for 15mil +, which is good but leaves me clueless as to just how much more money we will have to spend on quality additions.

I read somewhere here that Eto'o was at WHL yesterday?!?!?! didnt see him but maybe the TV camera just didnt focus on him Wink

Otherwise, Berba is looking more likely to leave but everytime he misses a glorious chance (like the header yesterday) I always hope the look of frustration on his face is one that translates to "i owe this club something" - i.e. "I am staying for one more year to see how it goes"...

In anycase, i heard the wind whisper that there is gonna be a young prodigy, currently playing his trade at a major major european club, signing for Tottenham...

I have no idea who Modric is, but everyone seems to be getting excited about him, and I doubt we would spend £15m on somone who isn't half decent.
I can't remember him from the Croatia V England games, and I've never seen him play for Zagreb. I guess I will just have to wait and see what this guy's all about...
