I heard on the radio this morning that Man City's owner Thaksin Frank Sinatra(sorry!)
is unhappy with the season his team have had and Sven Goran Eriksson will be leaving the club!
A meeting was held yesterday in London between the Swede and Thai owner in a top hotel...

I think Man City have had an excellent season and if they finish in 9th place a successful one....
They did the double over local rivals Man U and have played some good football along the way...

Do you think this is a case of another foreign club owner not knowing anything about football
and making unrealistic demands ?

Would Man city be crazy to let a coach go who has had a good first season and exceded many
peoples expectations?

To me, the idea of sacking Eriksson after the season he's had with Man City is ludicrous. He's brought in some of the most exciting players we've seen this season in the premier league (notably Petrov & Elano), and i honestly think with the amount of money Thaksin has then Sven can really build a team over the summer which is more than capable of challenging for 4th spot next season.

It would be such a travesty to sack him, especially when you think about where they've ended up in the table over recent seasons.

yeah just plain daft really ....Man City will finish at least 9th ...West Ham cannot catch them . If result go their way Man City could even sneak into 6th place .

Last season before Sven arrived Man City were only 4 pts above the relegation zone ....this season they were top of the league for a while and generally in the top five until the new year when it all started to go wrong .

Now it looks like they are starting to sack managers even if they are doing well ...utter madness .

Lets see here. Man City finished 14th last year, and 15th the year before with 42 and 43 points respectively. This year they are currently sitting in 9th with 55 points with a chance to finish in 7th. He has done more with that team than anyone has ever expected, he brought in new players to make the club better and more exciting and have moved them in the right direction.

I feel that with the early success of the campaign (7-2-1 in their first 10 matches). Thaksin saw a CL caliber squad. But in reality they were just over performing and are now playing more to the quality of their squad. And obviously if your expectations seem to be fulfilled in the first few matches so you decide to raise them, you're going to be sadly disappointed when the squad plays to their quality.

I think it'll be a huge loss for Man City to lose Eriksson, and you can look to see Man City fall back into the bottom half of the table next year.

im so glad we dont have a fool like this owning Newcastle. He hasnt got a clue!
As much as the british public didnt Sven, he was able to change alot of peoples opinions of him, and thats not easy to do in one season. He has got a few good players in this year and they got off to a great start. They got lucky a few times and were 4th my the turn of the new year. what more can he want!? So he didnt keep the form going all season, i stil think he has done a good job. It is hard to compare him to other city managers and other point totals because he has had money this year which was not always available to managers in the past. If Sven leaves then the fans would be against the owner, so he should just listen to the fans!

If he treats a manager of the stature of Sven like this, then who is going to take over? Certainly no one of Sven's standing. No one of note in world football is going to want to take over if he's going to choose the team selections, and have almost total control. Which also has a bearing on the quality of player they can attract.

Without Sven, half of the players wouldn't have gone there.

Very stupid move.

yeah it's a shocking move, the guy clearly hasn't a clue. Sven's done a great job and their fans love him for it. Thaksin was linked with Liverpool originally and despite the mess we're in, I'm glad that didn't happen.

Not suprising seen as he was a tin pot dictator in Thailand. Madness really, Sven has done a break job. Aside from Bianchi (and Bojinov through injury) his signings have been almost unanimously successful. Corluka, Elano, Petrov, Fernandes etc.. have been awesome.

He only spent 50m which is not going to buy a Champions League squad when you consider that Liverpool, Man Utd and Chelsea all spent around that on top of the world class squads they already had. No idea how he thinks 50m + A relegation strugglers team is going to transform them so quickly.

But that said the only thing City lacked this year was a goalscorer. They are tight at the back, great in midfield and with a 20+ goalscorer they will break top 6/7 and maybe better with luck and a slip up from the teams above.

I don't think he wants to get rid of him simply because he thought sven didn't do well enough. I think he wants a manager who will be a yes man and sven is not that. It upsets me because I have become a City fan and sven is the guy to take them to the CL and the prem title.

I think Sven's overrated to be honest. But he has done a decent job for season #1 and it'd be silly to not see how he fared next year after further investment.

I heard Sinatra was expecting CL in 5 seasons, so why would he sack Sven for almost reaching Europe. If he Sven somehow snatches Ronaldinho then the team could become great and I don't see that happening without a great coach.

Yes theyd be wrong to sack Sven hes done a good job and if the owner promised him he would have 3 years to get them into europe he should honour his comitment. Also Sven has the potential to bring in top class players so i think he should be given the 3 years and then be judged after the 3 years.

I think outrageous is a word that fits that idea.Any manager that can do the double over Man U needs an contract extension imo.Yeah they faded at the end of the season ,but he's bought in some quality players into the squad and him being a new manager his work should still be a work in progress.

sven is just paying the price for being a money grabbing mercenary.

he cant utter a single word of complaint and will simply drift into another highly paid job elsewhere. the slimy old perv didnt even bother to buy a house so he must have known it was going to be short term.

i have no sympathy for him whatsoever
