Roma skipper Francesco Totti has revealed that he plans to quit playing for the national team after this summer's World Cup.

The 29-year-old is currently sidelined after fracturing his ankle against Empoli in Week 26. He has now let slip that a major motivation for him to be fit for the tournament in Germany is the fact that it will be his last international event. "I really want to be a part of the World Cup because it will be my last competition with the national shirt," the crocked star stated. "That is the project which is in my end and I am almost certain that I will see it through until the very end."

"The last World Cup and European Championship didn't go as I had planned, but I will be in Germany and I'll make up for them," he added. Totti is expected to be sidelined for at least two months and is hoping to be back playing for the last two matches of the Serie A season.

I find this quite suprising, he is only 29 and still a fantasic player. Obviously this injury has knocked him alot and he realises that he can't cope with playing for Roma and Italy anymore, which is a real shame as i still think he has alot to offer the national side.

That is indeed surprising. Nah ... I think he will probably change his mind. Like Zidane. He can still play in the Euro at the very least.

He's probably got fed up of Italy honing so many amazing players, yet winning nothing Internationally. Frustrates me too, I'm always backing them.

I agree, for the quality they have possessed throughout the years they really should have won more than they have!!!
