Michael Essien's agent has declared that the Ghanian star is not on his way to Chelsea.

Fabian Piveteau explained that there are no plans in place for Essien's departure from Lyon.

"I have had some contacts, but we have never discussed anything with any club," he told skysports.com.

In fact, he has confirmed that the player is currently locked in talks with the French champions, who look set to offer him a new contract.

"We know Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United have an interest in Michael, but we are not in talks. We have never discussed anything with them and at the moment we are in talks with Lyon."

Essien maintains he is happy with life at the Stade Gerland, but is not entirely sure about his future.

"I would like to stay next season, but I don't know what will happen yet," he said. "I have a lot of fun with the team. I came at Lyon to win titles and here is the second in two years."

The African midfielder has drawn widespread interest from top European clubs, but he seems most likely to move to the Premiership.

"There is no hurry as I have a gentlemen's agreement with the Lyon chairman that will allow Michael to leave in one year no matter what," his agent explained.

The rising star may be staying put for the moment, but a move to a top club does not seem far away.

In my opinion it isnt over till its over!

Chelsea normally get what they want and Manchester United is a lure especially with their ambition for next year!

Dont be hasty in judging that he will be staying put!

He will be a premiership player

Essien is smart, he knows that Man Utd signed a player that Chelsea were interested in so they are doing the same.
Buying essien after what he said about Manchester United.
He knows he will only be a bench warmer as claude makalele will be taking his place most of the time.

He was never really linked with Chelsea, it looks like he will be moving to most likely Man U but maybe to Arsenal. Hope he joins Man U!
