This evening AC Milan's vice president has confirmed that Flamini
will be signing a 4 year contract with them instead of Juventus...... The French player left for Italy straight after the Arsenal v Everton game to sign the deal with the Italian giants and put pen to paper.... It is thought Milan decided to sign the midfielder after this seasons Champions League games when they were outplayed by the Gunners. Don't you think Arsene Wenger has just made one of the biggest mistakes ever letting a player of this calibre leave the Emirates if he wants to challenge for honours? After all its been 3 seasons now since Arsenal last won a trophy! |

I still do not understand this. From what I can discern he did not force this transfer, Arsenal wouldn't offer him a much better contract.

To be honest i think Flamini has made known his desire to play in Italy. The reason i forget, but it could be something to do with his descent. |

The story behind Flamini. Last summer, he almost forced himself out of Arsenal demanding a transfer out in order to play regular first squad football. Obviously he was a starting Carling Cup guy but never in the starting XI for league matches. He already had one foot out the door at the Emirates when Wenger convinced him to stay. Due to Gilberto's late arrival to Arsenal this year because of his ties with Brazil, Flamini was given a chance to play alongside Fabregas in pre-season friendlies and the two pre-season tournaments we took part in. Obviously he impressed and Wenger stuck with him. Gilberto came back, but didn't have any practice time with the squad, so Wenger kept Flamini in instead of playing a not ready and fatigued Gilberto. And with Wenger's policy, he sticks with the player that is in form. You perform and the pitch, you continue to play. And Flamini continued to play leaving Gilberto on the bench. In January, his contract (ran out) allowing him to talk to other clubs. Arsenal offered him a contract extension at that time with new terms, but he rejected it. Further along, rumors started popping up about calls from Italy wanting to sign him. And there it goes. Milan apparently offered him £5m a year while Arsenal only offered £2m a year (which I believe is double his current wages). Due to his contract running out, he's able to go anywhere he wants for free, so Arsenal get no money for him if he is to sign elsewhere. Arsenal have a wage structure which prevents them from offering Flamini such a high wage. And if they were to change/twist that structure for Flamini, then they'd have to do it for everyone else as well and then it would get out of hand. |

i will be gutted to see him leave and im not even an Arsenal fan. Him and Cesc worked really well together and i think the midfield partnership would have only got better next year. He allowed Cesc to get forward alot more then he did in past seasons. Hopefully you lot can get a good replacement and it doesnt effect the role of Cesc.

Makes sense I guess. He will be a hard player to replace, however there are a lot of Makalele types floating around nowadays and Arsene usually comes good in the transfer market and moreover Gilberto is still there. |

Juventus cheated and paid the price. The lost half their team, were relegated, and will continue to suffer for many more years as they try to rebuild their squad to the strength it once was.
Milan cheated, but didn't serve a sufficient punishment. They appealed and were allowed to compete in the CL, which they went on to win. They should've have even been in the competition. |

Well that was a big loss for us, but not irreplaceable IMO. There are players in his mould around and we can buy anyone of them to replace him.
But Hleb on the other hand will not be easily replaceable... |

If the guy sparks a rebuilding phase at the club, 'cause damn do they need it, then it could be quite exciting. They need to get rid of a lot of their old players Milan with fresh blood to join Kaka, Pato, Bonera and now Flamini... if they don't do that i can't see them finding themselves champions of Italy anytime soon. Hopefully there'll be a few more ins and outs come the summer. Juve have Sissoko anyway, who is actually an excellent player and from what i can gather is showing it in his first season in Serie A. I'm just glad Inter had no chance in getting him. |

I doubt that he will succeed in Italy, at least not in his first season. He'll find lots of competition from Ambrosini & if Gattuso opts to stay. It's a positive signing for Milan though but let's see if he blossoms.
PS: Juve are not cheaters, they are smart! PS2: They won the 2 Scudettos fair & square! |

Although I'm sad to see Flamini leave, I don't think it's as huge a loss as everyone seems to think it is. This will probably open the door for Diaby to play where he belongs, in the middle. He's practically a Viera clone and is fully capable of replacing Flamini. There is also Denilson who has shown some bright flashes of brilliance. Between these 2 players, I think it was the best decision both for the team and its finances. What I'm hoping for is that this means they will be addressing the other more important needs on the field.
