Wigan boss Steve Bruce is expected to step up his efforts to sign Egypt and El Zamalek striker Amr Zaki over the next few weeks.
Zaki, who has scored 21 goals in 40 internationals, is a top target for Wigan, who reportedly had a £4.1million bid rejected in the January transfer window.
With the Latics securing their Barclays Premier League status for a fourth successive season, Bruce is now eager to strengthen his squad, saying: "Our top scorer this season is Marcus Bent with seven goals, with three of those coming in one game. Then we have players on five and six goals, so that really is an area we really need to improve on for next season."
He added: "I think the most important thing for a club like ours is to get a striker who can make a difference - and that's where I would spend the money if I could source one."
Hes a class player, i really liked the look of him in the last couple of African nations cups. Would be interesting to see how good he would be in a proper league though
