BERGER TO VILLA
Patrik Berger will swap the south coast for the midlands next season when he walks out on Portsmouth and joins Aston Villa. The Czech Republic international has reportedly already agreed a deal with Villa, say the Sun, and will join them on a Bosman free as his contract expires in the summer. PARKER TO Everton David Moyes is confident of signing Chelsea midfielder Scott Parker with Everton now having qualified for the Champions League. And the Everton boss will pledge a large portion of the club's extra cash - for finishing fourth in the Premiership - to secure his signature. Parker had previously been reluctant to even consider leaving the Blues, but after an entire season of frustration on the bench, the former Addick will jump at the chance of European football. FORSSELL TO RETURN TO BRUM Mikael Forssell will join Birmingham again, next season, say the Sun, after the Finnish striker was made available for loan by Chelsea. Blues boss Jose Mourinho will look elsewhere for a new striker, leaving Forssell little option but to return to Steve Bruce's side, who have first option on the player. AND THE REST Valencia will sign Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert...Middlesbrough want Inter Milan winger Andy van der Meyde and Juventus defender Igor Tudor...Bolton want Liverpool midfielder Didi Hamann to replace Fernando Hierro, who is set to retire..And Sunderland want Blackburn striker Jon Stead. GERRARD'S NEW DEAL Steven Gerrard will finally sign a new £5m-a-year contract to stay with Liverpool for the next four years, says the Daily Mirror. The Reds captain will commit himself to Rafael Benitez' side after helping them reach the Champions League final. Which should put an end to all the Chelsea speculation - for another year at least... ALLEN AS LIONS BOSS? Dennis Wise only resigned as Millwall boss on Sunday, but on Monday Brentford boss Martin Allen is already being linked with the job after taking the Bees into the League One play-offs on a shoestring budget. Wise's departure has already inevitably seen him linked with a link-up with Ken Bates at Leeds. PEARCE AND SWP TO STAY Stuart Pearce will be offered a two-year deal to manage Manchester City this week, says The Independent. Psycho has earned the position after a seven-match unbeaten run that has taken City to the verge of a UEFA Cup place. The same report says that Shaun Wright-Phillips has no ambitions to leave the club in the short term and is happy to stay and work with Pearce. YAKUBU TO BORO Portsmouth striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni is on his way to Middlesbrough, say The Independent, with the Nigerian only needing to complete a medical before a deal is finalised. Rumours surrounding Yakubu's future have been in the papers for months with Newcastle also interested, but it appears that Steve McClaren was the decisive factor in him choosing Boro. KENNY TO MAKE THE STEP UP According to the Sun this morning, both Newcastle and Aston Villa will make offers to Sheffield United for their highly rated goalkeeper Paddy Kenny. Toon boss Graeme Souness apparently fears losing current keeper Shay Given, while Villa boss David O’Leary is eyeing a backup for Thomas Sorensen. A figure of £3m has been quoted for the Republic of Ireland international. DUDEK TO HOLLAND? Feyenoord have contacted Liverpool about singing former goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek. The Champions League finalists have already reportedly signed a replacement in Villarreal's 28-year-old Spanish keeper Jose Reina for £8m which will pave the way for Dudek's departure. Whether or not he will stay and fight for his place remains to be seen. AND THE REST Portsmouth are close to signing Maccabi Haifa striker Yaniv Katan...Former Chelsea boss Claudio Ranieri could become Roma's new manager...Racing Santander midfielder Yossi Benayoun is wanted by Liverpool, Tottenham and Bolton, while the Trotters are close to signing Malaga defender Juanito on a free transfer...And Birmingham will make Walter Pandiani loan move permanent for £5m. |
