Veteran Everton defender David Weir is prepared to swap the Champions League for the Coca-Cola Championship next season.

Leeds are one of a number of clubs to have shown an interest in the 35-year-old as he is out of contract at Goodison Park this summer.

Weir remains hopeful Everton will offer him a new deal, particularly with the Toffees in the Champions League after securing fourth place in the Premiership.

But if they fail to give him the security he requires, then Leeds could emerge as the frontrunners for his signature.

"I know through an intermediary that Leeds will give me two years, which is an obvious attraction," Weir told The Scotsman.

The Scotland international, though, still believes he can do a job for Everton if the club are willing to offer him the contract he seeks.

"I am 35, but I feel as good as ever," added Weir. "I know that's a cliche among ageing players, but it's absolutely true because I know on the pitch that nothing has changed.

"The only signs you get are the night after a game and the next morning when you're a little more tired, a little stiffer, than before. But from game to game, while actually playing, there's no difference."
