What era was he playing in - all joking aside, he has a very very impressive record. |

Rodney Marsh got too few - just 9.
He mainly lost he lost his chance when Alf Ramsey was England's manager, as it states on Wikipedia: Marsh stated that Ramsey told him ‘I'll be watching you for the first 45 minutes and if you don't work harder I'll pull you off at halftime," to which Marsh replied: “Crikey, Alf, at Manchester City all we get is an orange and a cup of tea.”. He was never selected for the England team again. His sense of humour cost him his job on Sky Sports too when he joked about Beckham not wanting to play for Newcastle because he was worried about the Toon Army (just after the big Tsunami in Asia). It might not have been in the best possible taste, but at least he didn't use bad language |

Julian Dicks.
a vastly underatted left back who would have been a regular if it wasnt for his reputation and falling out with a couple of england bosses, including Venables. when Venables sent Ray Clemence, a member of his back room staff in the national set up to see Dicks and sound him out about playing for his country, Dicks, intensely hurt by being overlooked at international level over the years told Clemence in no uncertain terms what he could do with his caps. a kind of international retirement, if you like! |

Always new dicks was a headcase that just proves it...he was an underrated player though

Cantona

God yes I forgot about Big Eric - and David Ginola too, he was wrongly (in my opinion) blamed for France not qualifying for USA 94. |

Forgive me if he has been mentioned already but Glen Hoddle comes to my mind..
It was a travesty that he didnt win more caps than he did just because he was technically gifted.... Another player who should have represented Scotland more was Alan Hansen.... I can only guess they already had 2 better centre backs as I cant belive he only won 20 caps? |

Yeah but who was he gonna replace? Zidane? I doubt it. And Cantona dug his own grave. |

Zidane pretty much peaked after them, its not about replacing anyway. I still think both were well worthy of more International caps than they got. |

Well Ginola peaked around 96-99 with Newcatle & Spurs & helping them win a Carling Cup which was around the same time Zidane was deystroying teams in Serie A & winning world cups & world player of the year awards.

And
Sorry tdv I don't really get what you're tying to say. It dosn't take away from the fact he deserved more recognition other than the infamous instance costing France a World Cup place in 94, as according to the French management at the time. |

Martin Max, German striker.
Three times German top scorer and 22nd all time leading scorer in the Bundesliga. Yet, he only got one cap in a friendly in 2002, where he was substituted just before the end. And that at a time, when we despirately needed good strikers. Something I'll never understand. |

|
|

|
Well he did loose possesion that lead to Bulgaria's goal. What I'm trying to say is that they both had there chances & blew it. Cantona played for France for like 7 years which is enough time to make your mark. And Ginola won a good few caps aswell. |

Perhaps, but to blame one player solely for the whole team's failure in a qualifying campaign consisting of 10 games for one mistake wasn't right, I didn't think.
Maybe so, as a fan I still think he deserved many many more and not to be tainted by his Manager's very public mud slinging. |

Ray Parlour deserved more caps.
Beckham only got in because he's better looking. Darren Anderton even got more games. |
