The game Atletico de Madrid - Sevilla (Liga game) has been called off due to Atletico supporters have thrown things (like a whisky bottle) to Sevilla players and the ref. It was due to Atletico supporters were annoyed due to there were 2 penalties for Sevilla (that they missed) and in the minute 80 Sevilla scored the 0-1. First of all, the assistant ref considered that it was offside but after some seconds the ref has said that the goal was legal and then is when all the problems have started. But after some minutes the ref has said that the game had to continue when people had already left the stadium. And then some people have returned to the stadium. And when they have resumed the game again the ref has shown two red cards to Atletico players. They have finished with only 8 players. The game has ended 0-1 for Sevilla

I think that if the ref had considered that the game was called off it wouldn't have to be finished.

I can understand the atletico supporters when they got annoyed, but nobody can enter a whisky bottle into a stadium, and throw it to the field. I saw the match (obviously) and there were two penalties (the first one isn't) and luccin was sent off with two yellow cards (first one was on the penalty). The goal is perfectly valid, but the assistant rose the flag and later the goal counted. Then the supporters got annoyed and the "Frente atletico" (hooligans) threw all that things to the field.
On the TV everything is clear, ut in the stadium is very difficult to see penalties or off sides. If an assistant was looking at the TV on one side of the field, nothing of this would had happened.
Obviously, once that the match is called off, the referee can't continue with the match as nothing had occured. In Spain people think that someone phoned the referee. also i think that the match continued, harmed the atletico, because we were very nervous and two other players were sent off, Perea and Petrov. Today i am embarrased supporting the same team as this "hooligans" (here i can't swear).

Th worst thing of all of it, yis hat the calderon ill be fairly closed, but other stadiums (evrybody knows) weren't closed, although it was punished with two matches (i don't know if this part is clear, i'm explaining a bit horrible).

I have only one more thing to say: in mestalla the match finished because a referee was hit by a coin, in vicente calderon not. So, if the referee is injured, the match finishes, but if a player is injured?? nothing happens??? Spanish football federation don't control the fotball in Spain, and the referees are worse and worse.

It sounds like it was an eventful match. It annoys me when it is the fans which decide the outcome of a game rather than the players on the pitch. Fair enough supporting your team but injuring opposition players and the ref is uncalled for.

I don't know what the decision is going to be about having technology used in football but until a decision is made we are going to have to live with some decisions going against our teams.

i agree with you ultimatesmurf but a lot of problems will be avoided with a video assistant. In almost every sport exist at least one.

Yeah i agree but in a lot of other sports it is used sparingly and it almost always interupts the flow of the game.

If it was going to be used some have suggested that it should be used for off side decisions. How many off side decisions are made in a match if even just half of them had to go to a video referee how much would that interupt the game? and say if some of them are tight and the video ref takes a while then it could add lots of minutes and we'll have 15 minutes of time added on for each half. Therefore i'm not sure it would solve all the problems we have now and would in itself create more problems

and they have now just started using video replay technology in tennis , football will be next , it will just be when .

I agree but it does slow the game down but there are a lot of benefits to be gained from it i'm just not convinced it will solve all of the problems we talk about on the forum.

It works really well in Rugby and once the ref makes a decision the players dont surround the ref, they accept it and get on with the game. It doesnt take long, mabye about 30 seconds and it could be the difference between winning and losing a game.

On the game last night, I saw the 'highlights' on Sky last night and it was discraceful, coins and even a whiskey bottle were thrown at the players and ref
