Cassano or Del Piero?

At the start of the season it seemed outlandish for either of these two to be considered for the Italian Euro 2008 squad. Cassano had barely played for 18 months and Del Piero was playing some of the worst football of his career.

However both have had a tremendous turn in fortune, Del Piero has been playing some of the best football of his career and Cassano looks to be finally settling down and realising his incredible potential. With Luca Toni, Antonio Di Natale, Marco Boriello and Fabio Quagriella all seemingly guaranteed a place in the squad who should Italy's "fantastista" be?

Del Piero easily. HJe's still a far better player and can do things Cassano can only dream of.

Plus, cassano's a w*nker Laughing

yeah I picked del Piero, but mainly just because Cassano's such a nutter - who'd want to be in camp with him.

Del Piero. He's the top scorer in Italy - how can you not take him?!

Basing on current form I'd take both, basing on the tactics Donadoni's Italy plays I'd take only Cassano as Del Piero doesn't fit in the 4-2-3-1 scheme. Alex can't play as the lone striker or as a winger, he himself said it. The only role Del Piero can do at this age (and he showed that he still can do a great job) is the support striker alongside the main striker.

If Donadoni will take Alex I hope he will play 4-4-2 sometimes otherwise Del Piero will struggle a lot at Euro 08

Del Piero of course, he's had a mesmerizing season with Juventus, bagging 18 goals and has a chance to become the top scorer (of the league). Cassano hasn't scored as many goals and has been sent off about a 100 times since he arrived to Sampy.

well as far as I'm concerned I'd like to have Alessandro Del Piero on my squad because he still keeps on scoring altough his age. Wink

I think Del Piero should be the final member, to be admitted to the Italian squad. This is because he is once again, among the top scorers in Seria A. He has been rejuvenated. Plus, with 1 final game still remaining in Seria A. He could possibly end the season as the top goal scorer. I also personally feel he has more passion, and will truly cherish one last chance to play for his country.

Del Piero easy. Del Piero is in much better form & is proven at much higher level compared to Cassano.

Both Cassano and Del Piero were incredible in the Juventus-Sampdoria match today. I would leave Quaglierella and take both of them.

Del Piero earned 2 penalties and scored 2 goals (letting Trezeguet take the first penalty). With Del Piero's attitude and his eye for the goal (21 goals just in Serie A) it's an obvious choice even more.

Both men were selected, it will be hard to fit them in the same formation but hopefully something will be worked out.

Cassano or Del Piero?
