Portsmouth FC - Steve Stone and Shaka Hislop

Steve Stone and Shaka Hislop have not been offered new contracts and will be released by Portsmouth this summer.

The 33-year-old former England midfielder has revealed he is "gutted" to have been released by Portsmouth. He will not be offered a new deal this summer and is now turning his attention towards finding a new club.

The former Nottingham Forest and Aston Villa pro, maintains he can play on in the Premiership. But he failed to appear in the 60% of matches for Pompey this season which would have triggered a new one-year contract offer.

He has spent three seasons at Fratton Park, helping Pompey bed down in the Premiership, but the appointment last month of French manager Alain Perrin looks to bring with it a major change of personnel this summer.

Stone said in the Daily Star: "They are not going to offer me anything, basically they don't want me.

"You get emotionally involved with the club and work your socks off and then this happens. I'm gutted."

Before joining Pompey, the industrious winger had won nine England caps, and he is optimistic that another top-flight club will step in to offer him a deal for next season.

"I know I can still do a job at the highest level for another year at least and am confident of getting another Premiership club.

"There will be a lot of clubs in the Championship who will want a player of my experience but I'll look around the Premiership and see what is available."

Goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has also been told there is no future for him with Portsmouth.

"The manager said he wanted three senior keepers in the squad next season and said I would not be one of them," the 36-year-old former Newcastle keeper told The News.

"Now I find myself in a bit of a quandary, which is partly my own fault, because I have nothing else lined up."

New boss Alain Perrin has major plans to revamp Pompey in preparation for next season's campaign. Unfortunately for Stone and Hislop they are clearly not part of these plans.
