So far, have heard that Moyes is interested in signing Kallstrom and maybe Joaquin of Valencia. Both good players to bolster the squad for the new season. Would be overjoyed if we can add more quality to be able to cope with runs in Europe, domestic cups and also finish strongly in the league!

Pls post here if you have any transfer news regarding Everton.

In Moyes we trust!!!!

Everton have released Lee Carsley as he turned down the chance of a new contract. Big loss in my opinion for Everton, hes clearly not the best footballer in the world or even come close to the best in the Everton squad but he was a very important player for Everton i reckon. He would sit back behind the rest of the midfield and win the ball back and just try and stop the opponents midfielders from getting any passing rhythm going. Since he sat in this position it allowed there better more creative players freedom to go forward, Arteta, Osman, Pienaar, Cahill etc. So i reckon David Moyes will be looking to bring in someone who has a similar style of play but younger.

Carsley was a trusty player. I thought he held together the Everton Midfield by himself at times. Very dependable.

Somebody like Kallstrom would be a very strong signing. With Everton's consistency in high-place finishings in the Premiership it would be nice to see them sign more Internationals like this.

I think a strong defensive Midfielder is needed to replace Carsley. Do you think Gattuso would ever think of playing for a Club like Everton? He did play for Rangers. Wink

Well Lee Carsley looks set to join Birmingham. He wanted to move back down that way to be closer to family and he will join Birmingham subject to passing his medical. That is a very good signing for Birmingham. He will give the other midfielders freedom to go forward and i can see them bouncing straight back to the Premier League if they can hold on to a few of their players who seem to peform well in the Championship, Cameron Jermoe etc.

First person to be rumoured as a direct replacement for Lee Carsley, Alou Diarra formely of Evertons merseryside rivals Liverpool, but im not sure if he even made an apperance for Liverpool i cant remember it was like 6 years ago.

Also a few German teams are said to be intrested in Victor Anichebe.

If they could land Diarra, Joaquin and Kallstrom then that would be a huge coup for Everton.

I think Everton mainly could use a striker, winger and defensive midfielder.

Not overly impressed with Johnson to partner Yakubu - i thought when the Yak signed in the summer it'd be an excellent pairing, but he's shown Johnson to be on a lower level than himself. Plus Everton were short towards the end of the season - for example, in the Merseyside derby, a game that realistically had to win, saw them without a striker on the bench if i recall correctly. I know injuries played a part, but are Vaughan and Anichebe ready (at this moment in time) to provide decent back-up and also challenge Johnson for a place in the side? I'm not convinced. Three strikers to compete for Two positions and a youngster for depth would be a much better combination.

Perhaps the most important position i think for Everton is on the wing. They're clogged up in the centre of midfield with players but only have Pienaar (left) and Arteta (right) for the wing... both of which are comfortably playing inside also. Someone who operates on both wings like Arshavin would be good. Everton have been linked with him and he'd provide a lot of creativity, flair and a fair few goals. If Moyes wanted to stay British he could always try his luck in luring Aiden McGeady from Celtic.

Obviously with Carsley departing they need to replace him with a bit of steel: and Gattuso is an excellent shout. He's seemingly after football on English soil and with the Big Four unlikely to be in for him he may, if his desire is actually there, he may turn to the following pack. It's worth a go. He's still got it despite his age and would be a great leader in the side, experience unrivalled. I can't see Moyes being bold enough to go for him though.

Their defence is reliable enough. Yobo, Lescott and Jagielka are enough for the centre and then Valente/Baines for left-back with Hibbert on the right. With Neville providing cover i think they're fine.

It'll be interesting to see how much Everton spend in the summer - and whether they veer to the continent or retain their habit of plucking players out of the lower teams and leagues. It'll always be interesting to see who leaves, with people like Fernandes on loan and Valente/Arteta rumoured to be possibly exiting.

Everton PERSUING M'BAMI, SIDWELL AND £18M-RATED JO

Everton are considering a move for Brazilian striker Jo, but have no immediate plans to formally announce a new contract for boss David Moyes.

It is understood Moyes and owner Bill Kenwright have agreed in principle a new deal for the Scottish manager, but both parties are now concentrating their energies on squad strengthening at Goodison Park.

But it is clearly accepted Moyes would not be planning a variety of transfer deals if he was not happy with his own personal future at the club, and the backing of the board on the transfer front.

It is likely Moyes - who has one year of his current contract to run - will eventually sign a new five-year deal, but with wages believed to be considerably higher than the £50,000 a week that has been speculated.

Moyes has been in charge at Everton for six years and he is likely to become a rarity in the Premier League with a contract that produces wages higher than any of his players.

It is understood no player in his squad is paid more than £50,000 a week.

Moyes and Kenwright are determined to break the club transfer record again during the summer, having done so with the £11.6million that was paid for Ayegbeni Yakubu last August - the third time they have broken the record since January 2005.

And they are now pursuing CSKA Moscow forward Jo - full name Joao Alves de Assis Silva - who has one Brazil cap and scored 30 goals in 52 games for his Russian club.

Moyes watched the 21-year-old play for CSKA against Lokomotiv Moscow a month ago. The fee could be around £18m for a player who is part-owned by Kia Joorabchian’s MSI group, who were involved in the deals that brought Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to England.

Everton also had dealings with MSI over the initial loan move that brought Manuel Fernandes to Merseyside, the Portuguese midfielder eventually leaving to join Valencia.

Fernandes was back on another loan to Everton last season, and Moyes is still considering whether to attempt another similar move for next season.

There is the prospect of a loan for Jo, but more likely a structured deal spreading a fee over several seasons.

Moyes’ immediate priority is to find a replacement for midfielder Lee Carsley, who ended his six-year stay at Goodison Park on Monday when he joined Birmingham on a free transfer.

Moyes could pursue an interest in Chelsea’s Steve Sidwell, although Aston Villa are favourites to sign the former Reading midfielder.

Moyes was on a scouting mission to France last weekend, where he watched Marseille’s Cameroon international Modeste M’Bami in action against Strasbourg.

Never seen Jo play, but with an £18m tag you'd expect him to be prolific... and at 21 years of age it could be a great investment. As i say, i think they could really do with another striker.

We need a left footed midfielder to play wide left. A defensive midfielder to replace Carsley. A proven striker to compliment Johnson and Yak (Vaughan and Anichebe although good needs more time to develop).

If speculations are true and we manage to sign Kallstrom, Jo, Gattuso and also manage to keep Fernandez, then I think we would have a decent squad to hold on to 5th or 6th. And maybe be in with a shout for 4th.

But to truely have a chance to break into the top 4, we will need to back up every position with real quality and that means signing even more players. And that needs alot of money..... Which I don't think we have.

Thus I will be satisfied with the signings of the above mentioned names and keep a stranglehold on 5th or 6th spot.

Kallstrom, Jo, Gattuso and Fernandez. Make it happen MOYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Everton have signed a 19-year-old Chinese footballer to their academy in conjunction with a reality television programme called 'Soccer Prince'.

Jin Hui was chosen from thousands of hopefuls at trails for the programme in China last year.

On his decision to audition for the show Hui told BBC Radio Merseyside: "There are many people who like the English Premier League in China.

"I can improve a lot through training and playing in the games," he added.

Not something exciting to shout about. We need players who can fit in straight away into the rough and tumble of the premiership. This players is for the future, thats if he makes it through the academy tho..... Not to mention the reserves!

We need attacking midfielders.

We already have a strong defensive backline and defensive midfielders, but look at the results since Arteta & Cahill out injured, we lost all our attacking options which cost us 4th place in the league. We lost games and drew games we normally would have won and should have won, with Arteta & Cahill playing.

Everything went to Yukubu, who in my opinion, is over rated. Not really his fault, as it's easy to defend against a single attacking option.

Imagine Arteta & Cahill, with someone like Santa Cruz or Berbatov. That's a powerful attacking weapon, and you could get both for the same price as Yukubu.

Who'd like to see that??? I know I would.

I agree about another stricker, in fact, I believe we need 2.

One to REPLACE Yakubu and another to provide more attacking options.
A Santa Cruz or Berbatov would be nice, hopefully both.

But your comments on Yakubu / Johnson have me confused.
You and I must have been watching different games.

Yakubu is slow, lacks enthusiasm or energy to chase the ball while Johnson is extremely enthusiastic, and he's fast. He doesn't give them a moments peace and is always nipping at their heels.
Yakubu seems to give up, doesn't want to chase the ball and gets dominated by the defense. Doesn't apply any pressure to the defensive line unless the ball is delivered to him on a plate.

Yakubu scoreda lot of goals this season.

Also no chance is Berbatov coming to Everton. If he leaves it's to a top European Club.

Do you know something we don't?
Moyes has been fantastic and has a great deal of respect and an eye for talent.
I believe he will resign for another 5 year deal.

Yak may have scored alot of goals, but we had no one else forward. He was the only option.
I believe he is a lazy player.

Berbatov may look at going to Europe but talk is he isn't happy where he is, so he is an option, same for Santa Cruz.

Fingers Crossed.
