Champions League-chasing Sampdoria have identified Internazionale forward Alvaro Recoba as one of their targets for next season.
"We want Recoba," said Samp's sporting director Beppe Marotta. "(Coach Walter) Novellino knows him very well and knows how to get the best out of the player.
"I think that if we qualify for the
Champions League, to bring Recoba to Genoa would be in the best interest of Samp, of the player and for Inter."
Samp are level on 59 points with Udinese in the fourth position in the standings, the last qualifying spot for the
Champions League. The Genoa team have already guaranteed themselves a place in the UEFA Cup.
Recoba, a Uruguay international, has failed to clinch a regular spot in Roberto Mancini's Inter. He is currently recovering from an ankle injury that has hindered his campaign.
Recoba played for Novellino in 1999 at Venezia.
