When I saw her at Everton some girls were getting football shirts signed which looked like england international ones by her I don't know if she noticed and didn't say anything or didn't notice.

Goalkeeper Emma Byrne Scoops Itish Sportswoman Of The Year April Award

Irish ladies senior team International Emma Byrne , from Leixlip , is rated as one of Europe's best goalkeeping talents.

She has lived up to that billing during Arsenal's quadruple season which has seen the Gunners collect the English League , FA cup , League Cup and most notably , the Uefa cup.

They became the first British team to win the trophy available to women's club teams in Europe at the end of April by defeating Umea of Sweden over two legs in final. Byrne made several important saves to keep clean sheets in both ties. They captured the trophy on a one - nil- score line , thanks to a first-leg goal by Alex Scott in Sweden.

The Londoners had already won the league title as well as the League Cup before their European odyssey ended on a positive note. They added the English FA Cup to that haul of prizes last week when they overturned an early deficit to beat Charlton 4-1 in the final at Nottingham Forest's City ground.

Byrne's heroics drew notice from this side of the Irish sea and The Irish Times newspaper has recognised her feat by selecting her as the recipient of the Irish Sportswoman Of The Year Award for the month of April. She is now amongst the nominees in contention to win the overall annual prize awarded at the end of 2007.

Two other Irish Internationals are part of Arsenal's all conquering squad. Ireland captain Ciara Grant played at centre back throughout the campaign while Yvonne Tracy has been on the substitutes bench in recent matches as she makes progress on her recovery from the serious injury which forced her to miss several months of the season.
