Speculation into the future of Bayer Leverkusen's in-form striker Dimitar Berbatov has intensified after he was watched by several top European clubs at the weekend.

The tricky forward is widely regarded as one of the hottest transfer prospects in Germany after a 16-goal return so far, in the Bundesliga, this season.

Tottenham, Arsenal and Valencia scouts were believed to be among the 74,000 spectators who saw the Bulgarian inspire his side to a 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund.

Berbatov opened the scoring with a well-placed shot after 22 minutes and Dortmund's director of sport, Michael Zorc, has admitted that a lot of teams wanted to see the striker.

He said: "We received more requests for free tickets from foreign clubs than ever before."

Meanwhile, the current Bulgarian Footballer of the Year remains calm about German press reports linking him with a move to White Hart Lane and admitted he might prefer La Liga.

Berbatov said: "I really like the style of football played in Spain.

"However, we have five more games to play and then we'll see if any club will table the amount of money required and then the negotiations might start."

Valencia are currently favourites to sign the striker, but will need to stump up at least €15 million to free him from his current contract.

Bundesliga sides Hamburg and Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation.
