Manchester United have confirmed Chinese import Dong Fangzhuo will be part of their squad for their four-match Asian tour this summer.

The 20-year-old midfielder has spent the season on loan with United's Belgian feeder club Royal Antwerp after signing for the Old Trafford outfit from Dalian Shide.

United Kingdom work permit regulations prevent Dong from playing in the Premiership but the July trip, featuring matches in Hong Kong, China and Japan, offers the perfect opportunity to blend him into Sir Alex Ferguson's squad.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be able to put on the famous red shirt in my home country," he told the club's website. "It will be a proud moment to play in China as a Manchester United player."

Cynics may argue Dong's presence on the trip is nothing more than a marketing ploy as United look to maximise their commercial interests in the Far East.

However, director of marketing Peter Draper insists the trip will also provide Dong with vital experience as he bids to prove he is worthy of a place at United.

"Dong has been progressing step-by-step since his arrival at Royal Antwerp," said Draper. "He deserves the tour and we believe he will perform well.

"A lot of Chinese fans have heard of Dong and know exactly what he is capable of. His inclusion on the team will definitely add to the excitement for Chinese fans."
