Lyon have revealed that they had contact with Milan Baros and Harry Kewell with a view to taking the Liverpool duo to Stade Gerland.

The French champions are keen to bolster their squad this summer, with a striker a top priority as they look for a replacement for Sydney Govou, who will be allowed to leave the club.

Baros faces an uncertain future at Anfield after revealing his frustration with the way manager Rafa Benitez has used him this season.

But while the Czech Republic international has not said he will leave Liverpool, he did reveal that he had received several offers for his services believed to be from clubs in Spain, Italy and England.

The 23-year-old remains an option for Lyon, but Kewell, who has had a forgettable campaign wrecked by injuries could prove too pricey for the French outfit.

"We will hire a player for the right flank. I also want a defensive midfielder as (Michael) Essien and (Mamadou) Diarra will play in the African Cup of Nations, and Juninho will have matches with Brazil," Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas told L'Equipe.

"We are also looking for an outstanding centre forward.

"We had contact with Baros, and, some time ago, with Kewell, but it was too expensive."

Lyon also revealed that they will not be renewing their interest in Fernando Morientes after they were beaten to the Spanish international's signature by Liverpool in January.

"About Morientes, when a deal could not be settled, it is not a good idea to go back," added Aulas.
"Anyway, we will have a big team next season and we will have great ambitions."
